Who pays?

My tech ran a vacuum over a berber seam that got caught in the beater bar. It pulled nearly a foot out before he stopped. We hope gluing and stuffing the yarn back in will suffice, but if they want it professionally repaired should we pay for that service? This is the first time it has happened to us, but I imagine it has to happen quite often with cleaning crews.

You'd have to pay Johnny... Reburring isn't that hard to do with latex and an awl... It's sucks but you need to make things right...

Part of your pre inspection. Notice any loose threads, don't vac with a beater bar. Any defects you find, write down and inform customer before cleaning.

Retuffting isn't that hard to do with latex glue and an awl... It's sucks but you need to make things right...

why is there even a question of "who pays"??

if you don't want the expense of an experienced pro repair, you might want to practice before you attempt "stuffing yarn" back in

it ain't rocket science, but is rocket surgery
It takes surgical precision and an eye for detail to get anywhere near acceptable appearance
("acceptable", that is above the standards of a slumlord that might pay $10 bukz to a BDCC'er for the surrvice)


practice plenty first, or call a pro

Carpets are designed to withstand the process of vacuuming. Once a carpet degrades to a point of falling apart - it should not be like a hot potatoe. Imagine going into a car wash knowing you have reust bubbles under your paint job. You come out and the pressure has blasted the bubble exposing the underside. Are you gonna expect new paint/repair?

Its better to mention at the beginning that you will not take responibility for degrading fibers. Otherwise you can skip the prevac process leaving it to the customer if they dont agree.

Pre inspection is a very important process .. its amazing I find damage here n there that the customer is like "whoa - howd that happen" and I didnt even start yet.

Not every customer would accept this but that can be hacked in with a lighter in a couple minutes.
