Why is berber so difficult?

Hacks hate it.

No prevac, no Glides, bad wand technique, wimpy TM syndrome and heavy pH rinses all lead to over wetting and call backs which in most cases they just clean again and make it even worse.

But you knew that.

i use to hate it to...

use to being the key word....

hummm i should get those pics and post them from a friends house...

Did encap and cimex on it first....just after i got the cimex...no real difference...

year or so later...it was nasty, wife told her it would be her x-mas present...hit it hard with a spray combo and ran the rinse...and BAM fookin ridiculas result...she did it 6 mths later and moved other furniture...i teased her about seeing the dif even with stuff on the edges...

no prescrub nor post pad, was dry in 5 hrs easy...and i hit it hard

did one today pretty nasty threw a blend at it and a little rinse, cranked the heat. spots gone, traffic areas still there....duh but lightened....he was askin about dry to but stuff back, told him by the night for sure...bent over to feel it... holy shit was almost dry

love berbers now, throw what ever the funk you want at it, rinse the hell out of it with the heat cranked, and a dry pass... and bam

If your question is why do "they" charge more, Becker nailed it.

The bait and switch guys charge extra for berber because its one more way to get past the 6.95 promotional price.

Believe me, they don't clean it any differently.

You'll also find that most every piece of upholstery requires dry cleaning, and that the carpet is also too dirty for "maintenance cleaning" and will require the "deep scrub method".

What makes berber so different that it seems so difficult?

I *used* to wondered why some have such troubles with olie berbers.

Not to "really" disagree with vEEgs, but we've HACKED our way thru many a rat hole apts with trashed berbers with out incident

Most all the things you mentioned we've done in some of low end/low profit margin accounts
ie, no vac (some so bad that you see debris/dirt/grit blowing around when pre-sprayed)
mega PH nuke juice in enough quantity for fish to swim up stream
no glides (in the old days) and 2 jet wands w/jets blowing straight down
Soap injection rinse

The only thing different was our wand technique.
We've never been a "saw away" with wand keyed, type of cleaner.
That by itself is enough to cause probs.
Add excessive psi that many routinely blow and it's no wonder why many have probs

so, in conclusion, I've determined the numba one factor, is pi$$ poor wand technique.
Unfortunately some have been taught that wand technique by gUrOO instructors too, and won't listen to some dumbazz one truck schmuck from N.E. Ohio.

A light misting of powerburst and an oxy additive then spray and extract on the back stroke only. Then go do a dry stroke.

Berber was the best carpet to clean with chem-hack.
The bonnet clean is the way to go on that stuff.

berber difficult?? residential berber is actually the easiest carpet I clean generally, a little ultra pak traffic clean and I can PAINT the stuff clean. berber was a fad of the 90's and I don't see it much at all any more, everything is going to polyester frizea, I would rather clean plastic berber any day

The answer is multiple and I agree with many of the things said. I would also add that the nature of the carpet is in and of it self part of the problem. It hides soil really well which means it get vacuumed much less frequent than it should. Then when it finally does get vacuumed the vac is adjusted to high and is too weak to pull the soil from the base of the fiber, thus it works it self into the backing and becomes a land fill. As most cleaners don't bother to start off with a GOOD vacuum the land fill in the backing will supply adequate wicking in response to the conduit of moisture and alkaline rinses.

I had some olefin today I did on a forth floor of a condo complex, pita set up. I used extreme clean boosted with some 02 and Judson rinse. Guy could'nt believe how clean it came out. He use to work for a big bait and switch guy a while back. Said the guy was crazy. Each tech at the end of the week who sold the most, on every Friday got a limo and paid night out. They would just charge insane amounts for the cleaning he said.

I could clean berber all day long. It's a freakin money maker. It should also be LITERALLY DRY when you finish your stroke. Any wetter is too wet.

Ron,

It may be that some market themselves as berber-cleaning specialists because they are using the original definition of the word and not the way it is most commonly used nowadays. Real berber does tend to take more time and care, and would warrant a higher price for cleaning.
