Yard signs? any of you use them, do they work?

Any of you guys or gals us those little little yard signs that you often see at streat corners? Do they work? any of you have permanent signs also? Do those work.. please do tell .. if you got pics that would be great.. im thinking about doing some up. but im not sure yet..

I used them for marketing rather than advertising, and actually placed them in the customers yard. I think the high-end customers I target consider the corner signs to be an eye-sore.
