Not at all. I had NO IDEA that this post would lead to a pre-vac discussion. Vacuuming wasn't even mentioned in my initial post.

If John wants to reconsider his position after reading these posts and give it a try, I would be really happy about that. But if he wants to do it the way he's been doing it then that is his prerogative. I know he greatly respects many of you here. Perhaps these comments will resonate with him coming from someone else other than me. But that was not at all what this post was about or the reason it was started.[/QUOTE.

I have considered pre-vacuuming for our clients because I know how important of a step it is. For close to 30 years I can still count on my hands how many times we were asked to vacuum or needed to vacuum prior to us cleanin because the client and housekeepers would do that for us I see everyone's point about pre-vacuuming and it is something that we will add to our process.

And then this happens...

Just got this email:

Also, I want to take this time to tell you how thrilled we are with the grout/tile cleaning!! I never would have guessed that my floors would look virtually brand new -- your work is awesome!!! Moreover, your attention to my questions and concerns last week was incredible; I've never hired a company that is so responsive and caring. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Best Regards,

XXXXX

This job was about the same as the one that didn't pay. I think she got the "perceived value" (Even at $2.00 sq. ft for tile cleaning and $1.25 to seal, @Mikey P) and we are scheduled to do another $2k in carpet cleaning for her.
dats only cause there waz no vacuuming required! :winky:

Did Meg or Speedy ever say if the customer was home and watching?

I get the feeling he was...

If he was we we wouldn't be having this conversation because he would've paid his bill. FYI. The furniture and carpeting were garage sale quality or I believe he purchased them recently at a garage sale . I don't believe he was looking for a difference in the visual more on the Health side which we provided .

Burdick's past customers are organizing.......

Yeah they're heading back to their sales people to complain about the fact they were never told about their carpet warranties being clean by certified cleaners .

OK finally by post #145 this is the post that should be copied on every BB. Totally agree.

I agree I needed to add value and I'm
way under priced compared to most guys here.

But using the Shark with 2 guys we can have a guy start by vacuuming, 2nd guy sets up starts pre spraying.

Vacuum guy gets to CRB everything.

2nd tech runs wand both help move furniture

1st tech drops fans.

If your good at it you can knock jobs out.

Vacuuming is huge but having a helper to get the steps done and not take all day helps to.

I like having 2 guys on a jobsite or always having a helper with me.

Also I'll run 2 upholstery tools at a time we can knock sectionals out pretty fast.

Not $1200 in 3 hours fast, but we're happy.

Over the years I've witnessed many a cleaner NOT performing dry strokes.

Many.

Which is worse?

Not pre vacuuming or not dry stroking?

With a devastator wand you don't need to dry stroke.

Now you're just trolling...

No vacuum.... No dry stroke...no prescrub?
High end cleaner my a$$. What else do you cut out with 30 years experience?

Sucker born every day that won't know better. So yes you can be successful and charge your rates....but man, it does sound hackish.

What if you vacuum at the end of the cleaning? Is that legit? :headbang:
I pre vac and use a 360i to clean but I tell my customers who have pets to vacuum after a couple of days. The deep cleaning methods of a rotary extractor pull a lot of pet hair from the carpet fibers. It is amazing how much more pet hair comes out after cleaning. Tell them up front so they don't wonder about where the hair balls come from.

And you see the great divide I have on a daily basis......

I agree.... to a point.

But, I gotta tell you. The customers love what we do and we are booked through Thanksgiving. We must be doing something right in their eyes.....even if we aren't when it comes to others in the industry.

We do quality work. We get great results. We have very happy customers. From that perspective, where is the hack in that? (Rethorical question of course...)

When the wool rug got wrapped up the way we do after washing...the customer was thrilled... And happy to pay the few hundred dollars....

Only because the way I treated them.

Of course when I called them back to inform them that I need to pick up the rug because we never washed it...Uummmm yes, a little surprised I would say -they were.
It was only dusted. Yet the customer relation was what gave them satisfaction and the perceived value.

But wouldn't you say, us knowing what happened was hackish?

Just because the suckers don't know better, doesn't make you good and high end.
