Whats your opinion about government ran healthcare? pros and cons? Also do you feel that having stricter environmental regulations than the usa has prevented or discouraged your business from moving foward in any way shape or form? Also what is the general economic climate in your country? have you been hit by a slow economy as we have? I was checking my stocks and I have some stock in the bank of nova scotia that seems to be doing well. A banker friend of mine rcomended to me to look into investing in canadian institutions as they are more stable than the usa's at the moment. Anyway not looking for any particular answer's just wana hear the truth from someone who actually lives there rather than a biased opinion from an american news channel

Probably would have been a good question BEFORE you voted for socialism...
I believe this post was a question for canadians not tea party sympathizers. The purpouse of this post isnt a left or right argument I actually want to hear an unbiased opinion from a canadian resident not the fox news or msnbc version

With health care a person has to take care of their own health, but with that where I live you are looking at a two year wait for something like a knee or hip replacement . If you have a heart attack most people are treated promptly . I know a 78 year old man who had a heart attack and he has triple by pass with in a week and other than travel cost for the family it was free. I don't really know what stricter eviro regs you are talking about . We pay higher taxes for sure . Cigarettes around 15 for a pack of 25 and beer around 45 for 24. The big thing about health care in Canada is if you break a leg or have to spend a long time in a hospital it is not going to bankrupt a person. We have a much more stable housing market . Our borrowing laws are much different . It used to be very hard to borrow for a home but it has loosened a little over the years but it is still strict .

From what I undertand canada is more strict about voc content and solvents. I also hear that the penalties for things like illegaly dumping your waste water can be pretty crazy.
also does canada have a social safety net program like social security or disability you pay into?

I haven't read any regs that restrict what I can use, if its sold in Canada it can be used. Our waste water here in Vic is required to be dumped into the sewage system, the only requirement being to filter it through 80mesh to eliminate the hairs and fine grit which kill the sewage pumps, after that there isn't much treatment (yet) and they pump it out to deep ocean. (ya, I know, how do they get away with it??)

As far as medical, costs me $120/mth, pays for basics, ie break and arm, get sick, but I STILL need extended medical to cover meds, my car ins covers me for medical expenses if in a car accident, and I need Worksafe to cover me at work. Govt medical does not cover physio UNLESS you make under $X, if you make over that amount you pay for it. It doesn't cover much dental if any. Doesn't cover any chiropractic. It does cover doctors visits and some meds.
So basically, I pay the govt medical, but I also have to pay for 2 other insurances, and full price at physio/chiro/dental. The only way I'll benefit is if I need surgery or something like that.
