I said I would never do fire - I’m a liar. I’m on my second job in one month. Guess I better figure out what I’m doing…

Where did you go for training \ certification? I realize a certificate isn’t that important, because I have openly told my customers I’m not certified or trained, but I’m doing the work because no one was available to come out here. Both jobs are probably minor compared to most. This loss, we will gut 1\3 of the house, clean the other.

Now to go and find some wonderfully skilled, unemployed druggies to help out.

Last question, where do you source boxes? Walmart forgot to do that for me last night. Said they would be sure and do that tonight, so I’m starting off a day behind.

Many of the big distributors sponsor Fire & Smoke classes, its a two day course that will go through the basics and get you a good foundation to build on.
As you may have already found out there is little magic, just a lot of hard labor. In its very simplest breakdown A) Remove soot dry, using a chem sponge or HEPA vacuum B) Wet wash using degreaser

Deodorize can come in many forms from direct contact spray to help down odor, odor counteractant in your cleaning solution, thermal fogging, ULV cold fogging, Ozone or hydroxcel generators, more passive forms like activated filters in air scrubbers, OdorKlenz air filters.

Looks like JonDon has one coming to you in November. Bill Weigand from Prorestore/Unsmoke is the instructor. He is a very good one!

The IICRC Fire & Smoke class is being taught in Kansas next week. Here is the schedule for the coming year at Interlink locations.

The Fireline school is good for contents cleaning.

Richard, - Dry cleaning sponges, not chem sponges. You'll appreciate the change in terminology if it avoids a lawsuit from someone who thinks they were poisoned by a chem sponge.

If you go to the KC school drive down and buy dinner one night.

"Drycleaning" as in dry cleaning solvent? :p

Maybe for those clients we better say "Soot Sponge"?

After being called on as witness in two cases where someone was claiming they got sick from the chemicals in a chem sponge, I lobbied for years to make the change to "soot removal sponge." I guess "dry cleaning sponge " is an improvement.

People can certainly get sick from many things. If they had a allergy from natural rubber then maybe it was possible.

More likely it was due to a nut allergy.

Yep they are crazy as nuts!!!

Thanks guys! I just ended my day and I’m very tired!

Homeowner had over 200 pair of shoes, two rooms of CLOTHES and that doesn’t count the closets - I would post pictures, but it wouldn’t be right. You’ll just have to believe me. We spent today just sorting her personal belongings in the master bedroom \ bathroom and cleaning out the garage to make room for storage. The boys gutted the areas needed and stayed out of her way. tomorrow we tackle 2 bedrooms and 3 closets. we only worked from 7:30-3:00 because of the heat - it’s 103 outside and the inside conditions are worse.

may have to consider getting in this line of work a little longer. the employees went home, got their families and are in my pool.

Wow! 200 pair!

We once did a formal wear business and had 4-women working on tux shoes for a week.

Sounds like you're doing great. Congrats!
