At the risk of confirming my role as the humorless, cranky old man:

Several years ago I wrote an article with a combination of acronyms and "big words". My father read it and asked what each meant. When I told him, he asked me this question:

"Why didn't you say that in the first place?"

I mumbled some excuses and gave a faint, half hearted attempt at explaining that most people should know what I meant. He then said something I never have forgotten:

"Your first job, your ONLY job as a writer (insert also "marketer" or "salesman" or "Mikeysboard poster) is to be understood".

Ever since that day, I try not to say or write "PSI", "CFM", "BTU", "RTU"....or use "big words". If he catches me at it, he asks if I'm trying to be William Shakespeare or Winston Churchill... and then reminds me that I'm neither.

So be understood and don't worry about acronyms folks.

And Meg, it doesn't matter what the letters mean. You're awesome.
