HOW has this part of Stanley’s business model lasted so long?

It just looks like the worst machine anyone would ever want to put in the worst place of the van. Almost as bad as a Bane

Why? That is usually the dead space in the van. As long as you can access the start button you don't need immediate and constant access to the machine itself. Plus they usually aren't trying to carry around every piece of equipment they own.

I guess, it just looks like they can barely put anything else in there once the hose reels are in. And that machine doesn’t look user friendly but I’m looking at it from an owners eyes, not a employee eyes with just a plug and play idea

They aren't likely to be carrying near as much as you are and it frees up the front for what they do carry

good use of space in a cargo van imo

When dinosaurs ruled the earth and I attended my first trade shows, Bane Clene and Stanley Steemer we’re both attempting to sell in the open arena with Prochem, Hydramaster, Steamway, Steam Genie, Ballweber, Big Red, etc.

Bane retreated to its model, but Stanley Steemer went to the franchise model and likely made more money than all the others.

Curiously, they stayed with manufacturing their own equipment, instead of having something made by others. They changed their design over the years, but never felt the need to produce something that needed to compete with anything else in the market.

The equipment, though oddly laid out in our eyes, fits their system.

Servicemaster gave up on residential carpet cleaning for the most part, but Stanley Steemer remains the biggest name in carpet and related cleaning in the home.

I like the simple design.
Everyone wants to add more gismos like the new cars.
And that is the key to more shop time to increase profits.
If a tm maker would just build that simple design they would corner the market.

I’m not so sure about that.
People today lack the common sense that used to be so common in previous generations.

A few years before I retired I built my last and most simplest machine.
40hp engine, 56 blower, pump and 1 heat exchanger, 200 gallon onboard soft water, 100 gallon recovery.
All controlled by 1 thermostat and 1 solenoid valve.
You could set the wand down for an hour and it would not overheat.

Cj was saying they had a kubota 972 engine same as the apex and 570.

Wonder with California regulations if that's changed?
