Todd;

We have used both microfiber and 100% cotton bonnets.

A "quality" microfiber bonnet does a very good job.

It is also more durable to laundering cycles.

These are the ones I like:

if op cleaning I would take a cotton blend or gladiator pad

They are made better as Larry mentioned but I don't like them as much as I thought I would. They also don't hold on to our pad driver very well either which can be frustrating.

Combo or Gladiators work much better.

I have not used microfiber bonnets before, always used cotton. I HAVE used microfiber towels and when you compare them to a cotton towel, the microfiber does NOT pick up as much water. I have to assume the bonnets will behave the same way.

Microfiber bonnets / pads / cloth are not as absorbent as cotton. They will not absorb as much water.

Because of the very narrow diameter and the shape of the fiber, microfiber has a lot of surface area to trap and hold fine particulate soils. A portion of the fiber is oleophillic or oil-loving. So it also does well on holding and trapping oily soils.

So comapred to cotton, cotton wins on water and soils disolved in water. Microfiber will remove more dry soils and more oily soils.
