I'm thinking a de'limo based solvent/prespray, a 175 and old red pad and a hard floor wand rinsing..

I'm sure there will be plenty of evidence left behind in the form of discolorationand pattern of the rubber but at this point they just want the goo gone...

I think I would try a bonnet on the 175, then a damp one to rinse prespray.

d'lime sounds like a good choice
but I'm thinking a red pad (or any VCT pad) is going to load up quick with all the gummy gunk

maybe a plastic/nylon scrapper tool to squeegee off the gooey chunks first

citrus soy solvent from biokleen and a white pad will take care of it without damaging the finish or shine

what ifyou remove the "glue" and then using the red 3m pad remove the damaged finish and re-finish the area. Of course letting the custy know that color variation on the wood willl only be removed if the floor is sanded and refinished. Would that work?

the floor is just a couple years old and is in otherwise fine shape.

they will deal with sand and finishing under the rug when the rest of the floors needs tlc.
