Once a patent is expired for any reason the invention described in that patent becomes public domain and anyone can use it without permission. Televisions and personal computers of examples of popular inventions that are no longer covered by patents that are expired. The invention cannot be patented again, but any invention that would improve upon public domain inventions are patentable and can be submitted via a patent application.

I know that.
I know copyright law varies but there is no way to recpoyright after it is the public domain. You can give it, transfer it , lease it but if a copyright is not renewed after (for earlier works) 28 yrs it becomes public domain. Nowadays it can be 70-95-120 yrs depending on certain conditions.

Very true.

...and then there are fair use laws for currently trademarked and/or copyrighted material. For example, you can parody a trademark without it being infringement.
