I have cleanco quad 56 pto in a 03 chevy 3500 express.

It seems I can only get about 3 months out of a van serpentine belt before it starts to chirp and it drives me nuts.

It's a GATESMicro-V K061203

I'm looking at a GATES GREEN STRIPE MICRO-V Belt to see if it will last longer.

Any other ideas to make belts last longer and will that Greenline belt work better?

Of course I've changed out the idler pullys and belt tensioner.

Gates greenstripe micro v are the most dependable serp. belts out there.
Get em at discountfleetsupply.com, save at least 25 bucks per belt.

first thing I would look at it the amount of " wrap " on the pulleys....when I had my CDs unit...the PTO clutch made the belt only ride on about 1/4 of the alternator pulley........after a short time the belt would squeal and slip on the alternator pulley.....because there wasn't enough grip......got a smaller belt and by passed the idler and problem went away because it was able to wrap the alternator more the half.....

If I remember my mechanics correctly..you need at least 1/2 to 3/4 wrap on your main drive pulleys for proper grip....if you don't have it..once the belt..( and it will not matter what kind ) stretches...seats itself...or in time wears down some...the start to lose grip and slip....

Does the belt just chirp or is it eating up the belt?

When you replace is there any damage to the old belt upon close inspection?

The belt covers 3/4 of the way around the alt pully.

I think it's more of an issue of the belt stretching.

Once you take the belt off it really doesn't show wear but I can tell by the tensioner that it has stretched just a little.

The belt which is a gates ko61203 micro V is listed as a OEM belt.

So Guess what I want is a more robust one that doesn't stretch.

I've tried the belt dressing but that only gooped it up.

My neighbor used a bar of soap and that did quiet it down for a little bit.

But looking at the Gates website there are a number of belts to choose from and it's confusing to select the proper one.

Go to Carquest, have them cross ko61203 with the coresponding Gates Fleetrunner "Green Stripe" Micro V belt.

Carquest is the only local supplier Ive been able to find for the "Green Stripe"... once they get you one, order them from discountfleetsupply.com, it will save you $$$, I order 3 at a time, but after 2 years, haven't had to replace one.

Modified butler to a serpentine drive, rather than a wimpy dual A belt drive.

Was also running a garage made direct drive I built on a 7.3 Powerstroke van, but uninstalled it.

I have the Gates MicroV KO60620 on my O3 2500 Express. It's about 8 months old and replaced one that was five years old. It chirps in the morning when it's cold and sounds like the morning birds , just like my shoulder and back and knee hurt in the morning. But once it's gets to operating temperature (hot) it quiets down, just like my aches and pains go away once I get moving. It's a good belt that should last you for years.

The belt is overloaded with the additional load of a #56 Blower.

PTO's should be driven from an actual transmission.

Thanks Larry. The 25000 hours I've put on my two Pro1200s (with about five belt changes in the 25 years) I'm sure were a mistake. It should have been run off the transmission. Hopefully the engineers will ask your opinion next time.

Art;

I'm glad you are getting good life from your belts.

If you don't mind,

what is the maximum vac level when you block off the vac intake on your PTO ?

Just for you Larry I went outside and turned on my van and cupped the vac line. The vac relief stopped at 17". I don't normally pay attention to it. It's supposed to be at 15". But there's plenty of leaks along the way to my wand or 360i so I don't worry about it.

Thanks for the vac level info, Art.

Fix those leaks for better recovery.

My Gates factory engineer thinks the single "K" series Micro-V belt . . .

does not have the design HP capability for a #56 blower @ 1200 RPM or so.

So I guess we have to disagree, Lee.

So Larry whick belt do you recomend?

Would the Gates FLeetrunner micro V work better that the standard Gates K061203?

But I see the fleetrunner is a tad shorter as it's number is K061195.

Or can you recomend any other belt to use?

Gates is the line of V-belts we would use.

On the Micro-V, I would use the Gates Fleetrunner "Green Stripe" Micro-V belts, as Ashley recommended.

They are EPDM rubber now, for better heat resistance.

Larry

P.S. Lee, that is the same graph he showed me.

If you look at the middle of the "L" micro V Selection chart (a larger belt),

you get a HP capability of ~10 HP @ 1200 RPM.

1200 rpm? I believe1500 is baseline. Enlarge the pdf graph and note that the hp is 17 and up. Unless there is an extreme overdrive situation in pulley setup the 56 power requirement is well within the capability of the selected belt.

The yellow line belt Gates makes for NAPA is the same as their greenline belt.

I guess there is a reason they don't make the quad 56 anymore. This must be the reason as the serpentine won't hold the load of the 56 blower.

It might be. My 47 hasn't had a problem.

A little squeaky in the morning like someone mentioned but it smooths right out.

Maybe I should change mine, or have it changed. It's probably 2 years old. I've only had it changed once as preventative maintenance in the 4 years of ownership.
