This is a tax credit for business’s that employ a worker from certain economic disadvantaged groups. The credit is 40 percent of first year wages up to $6.000…. thus a maximum credit of $2,400. A new employee who is a member of a family that received welfare or even just food stamps qualifies.

While we might not want to hire welfare “bums” to work for us, …a family of 3 with a monthly income of $1,905 per month qualifies for food stamps. So I am thinking there may be a large pool of hard-working, low-skilled labor available that meet the requirements of this program.

This is a pretty good sized tax credit IMO.... and might be worth looking for qualified candidate when hiring.

What do you guys think? Anyone here ever taken this tax credit?
