  • How and when did you get into carpet cleaning? 1995 I bought a jani-king franchise maybe was 22 or 23, did that for 4 years and learned about sales/marketing to businesses. The problem was they didnt really teach anything about employee management or business admin, so i went to work for a larger established commercial cleaning independent to learn "hands on" the day to day functions of running a business. My boss has an MBA and is a great administrator in real life, plus she was a great person to work for and learn from. 2007 decided to start my own business focused on commercial carpet/tile cleaning, residential kinda on side.

Along the way had several small nichee side adventures... and/or misadventures

  • Married?kids? any family involved in your biz? My father just retired and wants to work 5-10 hours a week running errands for something to do

  • Besides hanging out here, what do you do for fun? Mountain bike riding since high school, mainly look for a long stretch of road with a bike path and just go. Football in fall and on a friends deck in summer. Have the same friends since early grade school basically, neighborhood crew.
  • What was or is your biggest marketing F* up? Specifically 2 full pages in YP, overall not targeting enough in the first 1-2 years.
  • At what point did or will you realize that you can't do your own SEO? Haha, its not technical to me. We will spend around $2400 this year and end up maybe $50k in new revenue, good return for me so will keep doing it until the numbers stop.
  • Name the three most valuable tid bits you have gained off the forums? Tons of small stuff really nothing big, have thousands of bookmarks and pages i have copied over the years to reference.
  • The difference between *** and MB is...? I am in a transition period right now and the information i need is different from say 5 years ago. MB has a lot older {wiser :p} contractors and this is just the information i need for the next 5 year period.
  • What is your net worth? Less then a $mil but more then half....
  • Which Guru would you most like to punch in the throat? LOL, none really... The only ones i have followed or attended is bill/steve, their information is broad and covers many subjects. My personal choice so i can canvass through and cherry pick what we need at any given point, really have no interest in a specific program. Still enjoy throwing some sarcasm their way once in awhile, to keep them honest....
  • What would you rather be doing for a living? Nothing really, always wanted to own a small business, a slightly larger one!
  • IPhone or Droid? Blackberry  yeah, yeah its on the list
  • What would it take to get to to come to a trade show or MF? I did attend sfs and 3 iicrc classes at interlink, probably would be MF because its february. The other dates are a no go for me.
  • "I would rather sleep with Bob Vawter than clean with a......" portable, used them for 10 years. Can't even stand the high pitched sound
  • Your retirement plans please... 20 years away on that one, most things i do incremental. Doubt it will be any definitive date, more like a little bit less every year.
  • The most important thing your dad taught you was? Consistency, Be on time and save money/live modestly
  • Thanks Shane, glad you found us
