I have one of our Cimex's that runs for a few minutes and then quits? One of our guys that has some limited electrical skills thinks its the motor. Does that sound right? Could it be something else?

Fortunately we have other machines but I still need this one working correctly.

If its getting hot it could be the motor shutting its self off. OTherwise probably a short.

Is it the motor or is it the operator? (You)

Mr. Snarky Non-Electrician

PS I'm sorry, Richard. That was hurtful. I will make it up to you.

LOL

Not me I was just told of the problem.

Maybe getting hot? I'll need to check with the operator.

Are there any electricians near where your office is ??

Maybe one can diagnose the problem better and safer than a bunch on BDCC's. :stir:

Oh yeah, it will cost money.

Which is usually better than costing a life by electrocution.

Hey Richard,

Give our office a call today 1-800-330-1888. Ask for Rod. Rod is an ace at everything mechanical! He started off in his early 20s as a small airplane mechanic. He also worked in auto mechanics. And for about 20 years he owned an auto electronics business. Needless to say, there's not much that can get past him. I think he can likely troubleshoot your problem over the phone. And if not, I'm sure he can get an answer for you in a short time after doing a little research.

yea rod helped me out a good bit..mine would shut off and sometimes would start back up and sometimes wouldnt for a while..

after a few questions he figured out it was a break in the cord at the switch box..he said they always break there

if you can wiggle the word or move it up and down and get it to come back on..theres your ticket..

We send a lot of stuff out but we also repair a lot in house. There is always a pile of equipment in need of repair, light stands, carpet vacuums, HEPA vac's, airmovers, dehumidifers.

This is the first time for a Cimex, they are pretty stout machines and don't require much maintenance. The one tech went to technical school for small electric repair. He fixes all kinds of stuff if he can get the parts. Gas engine and TM and we send it to the distributor.

I'm going to get a cardboard cut out of myself and set it in my chair. They will never know. :headbang:

The 2 older models we have yes but the newer version we had the same problem couple times.

I like the sleeker design, something seems different though.

I have had the same thing happen. Check wires in the cord at the plug. One of the wires was severed about an 2 inches back from the plug from continually winding the cord. Replaced the plug end and works likes a charm.

I have the stone version. It has a thermal switch on the motor, but I can't imagine it being that different than the carpet version. Sounds like the machine is or thinks it is getting hot. Maybe a capacitor?
