since April 2013 to March 2014 i used the Trio on EVERY job, except the 1st month or 2 when i had some issues with it and it had to be returned for service/fixing....then i used the Cimex.
my experiences:
- cleans just as good as my Cimex (with their stiffest Trio brushes [blue brushes.])
- mill approved.
- for me it cleans a little faster than my Cimex.
- uses less cleaning solution than my Cimex (10-40% less depending.)
- it is NOT built like a tank, whereas the Cimex IS.
- the handle is VERY poorly designed, ergonomically just TERRIBLE, i can't stress this enough. i just finished 2 months of physical therapy for tendonitis in my index finger because of the terrible trigger design (i'm not the only one with this issue.) sounds ridiculous to me, and it is. i never knew how much that "injury" would affect daily life. i jimmy-rigged my own trigger system as i showed in a picture in another thread here on MB.
- it can NOT be used with a high pH cleaning solution / booster. i boost almost all of my encap solutions with ammonia. this slowly ate up the softer parts of the solution system in the Trio (like small O-rings.) i've replaced 3-4 sol pumps in a year. use their neutral ph encap and you should be good to go.
because of the last 2 points above, since March 2014 i'm back to using the Cimex on all projects that require ammonia or other high pH products. i use these products on all of my more heavily soiled (restoration) projects, which is maybe 70% of them. so while the Trio can clean as good as the Cimex, but because of the fact that i can't use high pH products in it, the Cimex can clean better with a high pH product in it (and it doesn't fall apart.)
it's nice to have a VLM machine that will not break a carpet warranty on the van, especially one that can give Cimex-type results on CGD. this gives us peace of mind in the EXTREMELY rare event of any warranty issue. but it'll probably never come up.
hope this helps others who are contemplating this CGD monster. on the brighter side, the price for a Trio has dropped $800 or so since i bought mine...
my next machine will be a Cimex.
