A few questions for one of our most loyal members here on TWGCCF..

  • Zalen Zahbo? Is that the correct spelling? Where were you born and how did you end up here in the golden state sucking piss from carpet for a living? Born in Budapest, Hungary. Been all over Europe and lived in Canada for a few months before ending up in Colorado. Few weeks there and down to San Diego back in 1998. Friend of mine - who you referred to as my pal- hired me after a year in the concrete pouring dream....Carpet cleaning just paid better at that time for a guy that wanted to learn english and not spanish.
  • Tell us about the size and scope of your operation.. I run small...I use 3 part timers. But no job is too small or too big with the available equipment and man power help.
  • Why am I having such a hard time finding your website? I suspended the website... word of mouth. Not sure if I will be staying in the area for too long, as I have interesting opportunities Down under with my brothers.
  • What happened to that local guy who you use to pal around with here..? He is still around and doing well. We still work together on a lot of jobs or refer to each other. That is how we can show up with 2-3 tms or 4-5 Cimex and 2-3 Orbots etc to a bigger job.
  • What MB member's business do you most want to duplicate? I don't know...I would need to know more about them.
  • Wife, Kids? If so what does she do? Wife, at home raising our 5 year old and 2 year old sons.
  • Please describe your truck('s) and what services you offer, and what services you really excel at.. I drive a Ford with an El D. Carpet- upholstery cleaning, t+g, stone clean- polish, pit washing rugs.
  • What does MB do for you? Helped me over the years tremendously to learn and discover the tricks of the trade. Looking back to how we cleaned carpets back in the days with VonSchrader....omg....Not knowing better.... I can't believe some companies are still doing that and only that.
  • I met you once or twice and recall a bit of an accent. Does your speak impediment create walls between you and your fine wealthy white bigoted would be clients? Didn't speak any english when I arrived....but now I think I'm doing ok with my speaking abilities. Truth is, I now, know more and better english than a lot of native born people that complain about not being able to get a job etc.. Those clients you refer to, actually appreciate the fact that I'm different- as most techs around here speak pretty bad spanglish. They appreciate that I can understand some of 5 languages.
  • 5 MB'rs on that desert island.. Depends...can I have my trusty old knife "strapped to my ankle"?
  • Best seminars, classes, books, round tables or events you've spent money on to better your business and self? None of those- best has always been customers, that I can watch and learn from. Their actions and reactions. I'm very lucky to have to deal with multi millionaires on a daily bases. Some are total a$$holes but some I have a relationship that allows me to ask for advice and they're happy to help. Some want me to drive their brand new Porsches and RS6 Audis etc.. which is nice since I love cars.
  • Hummus, chunky or smooth?
  • (want me to get you a killer deal on a RV360XL?) What is a killer deal? $1991? Maybe a 360i would be better for the Dwell unit? I usually take a Hoss when needed but only used it with the truckmount.
  • Favorite Wand, prespray, rinse, way apply prespray, carpet protector and vacuum cleaner. 7inch extended 14inch Greenhorn. Mostly powermax but I use Ultrapack, Powerburst, Redline, Flex etc...always thru hydroforce. Maxim protector (but want to try Cobb's soon). Momentum (but looking to ditch that. Its discontinued and the last 3 I bought, didn't last more than 4 months each)
  • Any word's of wisdom for the newbies on the block? Put your bs filters on and don't spend money you don't have.

Thanks ZEE!

I have used it on 29 jobs so far. I like it a lot. But I'm still kind of wondering about the vac power. Even at 35 feet of hose it just feels weak. I'm sure its because I'm not used to working with a portable...but I can barely hear airmovement thru the small wand. I'm thinking of getting a rotary for it too see if I can do better with it. I might just refurbish the old dual head rotovac....

Oh..and aside from the rubber handle slipping off the handle bar in the middle of lifting up the machine... and then it falling on my foot probably broke a small bone- its been nice to wheel it around. My foot still hurts...4 weeks later.

That's probably it.

What POS porty were you using b4?

You don't eat Hummus in Budapest?

Does your wife work your phones?

Down under as in Aussie? Does it involve sheep or whores?

Do you have a Yelp page?

29 jobs? Yes, the rest of the jobs were done with tm and Orbot.

you just got it!

What POS porty were you using b4? A mixture of truckmount or Orbot padding. Whatever made more sense. I put the Dwell to a decent test over the past few weeks...and will readily admit: I called up 3 customers I cleaned for the past couple of months and told them I would like to redo their carpets for free with the Dwell...Because I knew -padding it-, wasn't the best that I could honestly leave behind. I did all three and they were all "jaw on the floor" that I did this. These are the things that worth more to my business than any kind of advertisement.

You don't eat Hummus in Budapest? I didn't even know what hummus was until I came here... Btw I like hummus.

Does your wife work your phones? No. She has no worries in this business. I don't have her do anything...her job is the household and the two boys.

Down under as in Aussie? Does it involve sheep or whores? Yes as in Brisbane and Sydney. No sheep or whores that I know of. Its more about real estate we deal with.

Do you have a Yelp page? Not anymore. Those yelp reps drove me nuts.

So Marty walks into a bar with a big fat duck under his arm. As the bartender sees him walking towards the bar he says "You CAN'T bring a pig in here!"

Marty says "That's not a pig, its a duck! Doofus!!!"

The bartender says "I was talking to the duck!"

Marty you need to BECAREFUL with you language,

Some people might be drinking something while reading your post, and almost choke on what they are drinking.

Nice interview good job Zee. I have a guy I met at empire floor machines today does auto detail named Mario from Croatia, He's buying a everest hp and never cleaned a carpet inb his life, I gave my cousin his number who lives in Escondido, and told him to come to the board. Really he needs to go out and clean with someone with experience and get certified the carpet cleaner course would be a huge beneifit.
