Seems like @GeneMiller clear 5' sleeve over your lead hose is the perfect protection in home... I want to know where his hose broke?!? Cutting 6" to a foot on each end should be sufficient every 6 months... I did have a para-flex hose kink in the middle and bubble...

I just started using high heat and this is a good reminder to check hoses periodically, in-home and outside....

Never a blowout with the Parflex going on about 5 years now. Failures were limited to a warning bubble which got our attention so we could repair.

Several blowouts with the old wire braid Goodyear Neptune.

Had more instant blowout failures in the year and a half I used Ineptune than in 23 years of using Parker Parflex.
been pretty vocal over the years about my extreme dislike of steel braid Ineptune .
there's NOTHING good about with the exception of it's flexibility ...other than that, it's all bad points ;
it's extremely hot to touch (will permanently disport olefin/poly carpet if your TM makes hot water )
Doesn't carry as much heat to the wand as Parker
it's heavy
prone to black death
gives no warning when it instantly bursts and squirt black gunk on walls and carpet
(or worse, 200+ degree solution on the operator)


I think it's dangerous and wouldn't hit a dead dog in the azz with the crAp

I didn't read Jeff's article, so maybe he mentioned an industry average of what "6 months" of use is .
If not, it's useless otherwise...as " 6 months" is 200 hours to some and 600 hrs to others

I was pretty impressed with the nylon braided Neptune hose on the Butler at Santa Cruz MF.... The rating on it was 1500psi at 230° if my memory is correct... I could hold onto the hose even with my soft ass grabbing hands....

Parflex is not "Reel" friendly.

The first year in business my hose popped cleaning marble. To make it worse it broke while I was at the machine. It hit the ceil and a large curtain. It was pretty bad. At that time I had never heard of the problem or knew the connection was a weak link. It wasn't uncommon for me to lay the wand down bending the hose back.
I've seen cars drive over pressure washer lines no problem. I didn't realize these weren't as tough. Since then I had a section of clear 5/8" I.d. as my relief. All that happens when it pops is a dribble out the end. The 5/8" fits snug over the metal fittings so you don't need a hose clamp. It's a pain to install over the end but with a strong string a little lube and two people it's quick. Only once since has the hose broken somewhere other than the connection. Hint , don't let heavy commercial doors slam on the solution line next to the hinge.

Hate Parflex. In fact, they should not be allowed to use the word flex. It's a coiled up nightmare to use.

I love Goodyear.

Replace it once a year.

I've been using Parker ParaFlex for over 10 years and have never had a blow out. Like others have said, it will bubble first to let you know its time to repair or replace.

Cobb will make custom sizes.

We like ParFlex anywhere you can live with the 230 degree rating.

Generally we put a 50 ft. length of quality wire-braid at the TM for heat resistance . . .

and run Parflex the rest of the way. It is kinky at first, but settles down after a little use.

I like that it slides on the carpet easily, and insulates better.

I replace my vacuum lines also only the first 100ft the ones that look old
when I get the new goes to the back and the one with less use goes to the front
a good way to keep things looking nice

I just replaced the 3/8" on the hose reel. It was almost 8 years old. Don't run steel braid in the house. Been 3 years on the current hose paraflex.

I've had a crimped fitting come off at the wand once in 30 years (last year). Probably a bad crimp. All failures occur at the machine for me and I replace the hose whenever the failures occur regularly. John Olsen will cut it to whatever length you want. BTW- Does anyone have dye transfer from the hose to carpet at the "Tool End" of the hose? For the last few years I've had the blue dye transfer from the hose to the carpet right at the stair tool (never but on stairs), and it doesn't come out.

Never had that happen. But I buy Baptist Goodyear hose.

That Mormon stuff is finicky.
