Hi,

I have 8pcs of machine made 100% wool oriental rugs (Size: 10 ft. x 14 ft.= 140 sf. multicolored, rectangular shape) ready to clean.
These rugs are in good condition no pet accidents, or other form of contamination, having being housed in a storage facility for about two years perhaps it will required deodorizer , as scheduled the storage facility agent is responsible to drop off the rugs to your shop and pick up for shipping after cleaning is done. I am protected against loss or damage while my goods are in transit.
I need to make the rugs look very clean before shipping to the final destination. Kindly get back to me with total estimate to clean the 8 rugs?
Are you giving me any discount?
Waiting to read from you soon,

Regards,

Dave Morgan

My gut would say: scam.

Love the line "are you giving me any discount"

This person is asking for the price....but without even knowing the price he is already asking for a discount?

I've gotten similar email a few times too... Good thing my "bullshit radar" was working properly.- I just could figure why someone with a terminal illness would need to make arrangements to get his rugs cleaned while in the hospital...!?? good thing it was written in "Nigerian English"

The most common indicators I have found with these scam emails are......

* Multiple number of pieces.....8...10...I have even seen requests for as many as 15 rugs.
* Rugs are presently in "storage", or in limbo pending a relocation to a different city, country, etc.
* Presence of a third part "agent" or "shipping company that will handle the delivery.
* No phone number initially. Only email contact.
* Sick, dying, hearing impaired, or some other elaborate, long-winded story.
* Bad attempt at using English to sound proper and intelligent.
* Silly, generic American name, sometimes even a Dr., Reverend, or other prominent title to attempt to establish some sort of credibility.
* They love to use the word "Regards"..........

Their goal is to get you to give them an estimate for the cleaning, then pay you the total cost of cleaning plus the exorbitant shipping costs IN ADVANCE BY CHECK OR STOLEN CC.

At that time you will be expected to arrange shipping with the supposedly "third party" shipping agent, and pay them the shipping costs directly with YOUR CC.

Their goal is to get you to pay the shipping fees to them BEFORE their check is processed and found to be bogus and not honored, or their initial CC payment is retracted.

I strung them along once to the point where I got them to send me a fake laser-printed check via Fed-Ex.

Fooking losers are relentless.

You guys missed out. I cleaned these rugs last week and got a check for $10,000. I can't decide what to buy first. Anew bike or a boat. And the shipping was only $800.

I have gotten several poorly worded texts from "hearing impaired" people trying to scam me. I contacted the police because I wanted to catch the guys but the Po po said they always end up asking for money to be wired somewhere. I feel bad for the actual hearing impaired people who need carpet and rug cleaning.

Also the shipper doesn't take credit cards only a cashier check or money order.

If they took a card dying deaf rug thief could use his!

We always get these via text message - usually someone asking if we do house cleaning and if they can pay with credit card and can't talk on the phone because they are in the hospital. Weird messages.

Used to be relay calls over and over!

From someone pretending. To be deaf.

Can't they at least make the order sound more believable?

10 X 14 is not a typical size

What house can accommodate 8 of them?

Vary your answer from "FOAD" to "I have forwarded your email to the American CIA for appropriate action."

What matters is that when the email is finished, you should feel the righteous satisfaction of a job well done.

I just tell these scammers to call our office for more information and to set up an appointment. When they say they don't have a phone that's a deal breaker for us. We just tell them that we REQUIRE our customers to have a working phone as we need to communicate instantly during the process.
