Swirls can be raked out. Shading on worn carpet can be minimized with faster, overlapping strokes. Zebra stripes (dark in the middle, light on the edges) are more difficult.

How do yall deal with zebra stripes?

Much obliged.

Ps. I cleaned a white frieze with old, deep soap deposits from previous cleanings. Fibers and backing were black from sticky, old soap. Removed the flow restrictor and increased pressure in one hundred psi increments to 900, where it seemed to be flushing to the backing. Told customer it might take forever to dry, but I put Airpaths on it and it was dry enough to replace furniture in about ninety minutes.

Got a call from a customer complaining of "zebra stripes" in his white nylon. I'll post pics when I get there, but prob won't be today cuz I'm slammed and behind schedule. I've encountered this before, so I figured, to quote Paul Simon, "You know exactly what I'm talking about".

Been using RX-20 for 30 years and I don't recall leaving any zebra stripes ever. Any swirls rake out. Rotary extractors are far less likely to streak than wands.

Perhaps pile laying opposite directions? This would give a light and dark appearance. Grooming with a Grandi Brush while still damp should take care of it easily. After it is dry, you might need to make another cleaning pass and then groom. For some carpet styles it may just vacuum away.

Iv,e had some problems on some carpets with the rotary and one of the spray jets were plugged causing a pattern on the carpet. After I cleaned the jets the pattern was gone, also high pressure will make a pattern on some carpets. jz.

Oh my tisk tisk!

Lets say someone in the future designs a tool that can make many more cleaning passes than a technician can reasonably make with a wand.
This tool is also a little less fatiguing on the body. Well, actually a lot of you're trying to compare cleaning results. It cleans deeper and fluffs up the carpet pile and clients love it.

Is speed really a concern? I suppose it could be, depending on what you charge but IF you're already charging a premium then why not slooow down and deliver what you charge for!

Ohh the future is here Ofer!

P.S. Sorry but I owed you for the Ant Eater comment last week! ;)

There! Now I can sleep better. This Ant Eater comment has been hanging over my head causing me a lot of unrest. ; )

The Zipper is my tool for extra dirty or large open jobs, The extra cord on the RX 20 slows me down so the Zipper is the tool to use and I check the jets on it for a better job. jz.

I have two Hoss's and both of them leave lines in certain types of carpets. On residential carpet they usually wand or rake out. I won't use the Hoss on commercial carpet any longer. It leaves lines in the carpet that won't come out. I spoke with Saphire about this and was told they had never heard of that happening. I sent them a couple of pictures.
There was a thread on here a couple of months ago about the same thing happening. http://mikeysboard.com/forum/index.php?threads/hoss-lines.276128/
One of the posters on that thread thought the metal plate on the bottom of the machine is what was causing the lines. I tend to agree.
I think the Hoss's clean well but I would like to see this problem get resolved.

I have not been experiencing a problem with the new Rotovac 360 XL's...

But, I also groom out everything we clean except a berber or low profile that really won't "Groom" you could say....

And, I really don't have any experience with the Hoss 700, so I cannot comment on that.

I have used RX 20's and we still would groom out....heck, I even groom out everything I wand or Zipper as well....

Just the way I was taught by my dad, and the way we still do it....

And out of respect for my dad....I will keep doing it.....

I own a 360, a 360i, a 360XL, a T-Rex and a CX-15. I'd return the two latter gadgets if I could.

all rotaries are going to leave some type of swirl marks...which that all brush right out.....

Zebra stripes..sounds like streaking....and if thats the case ...its either a jet issue or a operator issue...

in most cases it is the operator going to fast for the machine to do its job..or not over lapping enough....

If you turn the pressure to high I would think it would cause pile distortion just like on the wand or zipper. 900 psi sounds pretty high for jets that are buried in the carpet.

Gene

in most cases thats very true...but not with the Hoss..its bars are more of a flow..not pressure....

Passes were very slooooow at 350 PSI. >25% overlap. Phoned customer, he said looked like football field, with dark parallel yard lines. Said dark lines seem to be fading and will be OK, but I'll be in his neighborhood Monday and will look, and probably wand it out. He texted me pics, but they don't really show the problem.
