How do you step it up when the last guys blew it?

I saw this in the notes on the last job for today

Reference:
Note: eta 130-330 clean 2 staircases(house is 3 levels) and roughly 1000-1300 sq ft of cpt. they just moved in and the carpet was cleaned by someone else before they did and already looks horrible. bk6/10 left msg to confirm

I have to wonder, did the last guy do as good a job as possible and it may just need a lite touch up.

Can the new home owner not differentiate wear from soiling?

or was it Stanley'd and really needs a proper going over, in which case, how do you attack an improperly cleaned carpet when you have no way to find out its history?

Asume it's been over cleaned with high alkaline chems so just do an acid rinse?

Or not assume and get out a pH pen or paper test strip to confirm..

After 30 years in the trenches I can usually just tell by sight or touch, most of you can as well, but can your newish crews do the same?

Thoughts?

If this was an upholstery cleaning problem, and it involved browning, water stains, or texture distortion, I'd tell you to stay away from it. In many "corrective" situations, you can end up getting the "bad guy" off the hook and get yourself "on the hook".

But a re cleaning of carpet is a different story.

Some realtors here will want you to clean and the want to close up the house with no air movement.
No we can't put the air on.
No we can't leave the fan on.
90 degrees and 80 percent humidity and pet odors.

if I am on a job and I think there is a NUKE pre-spray still in the carpet I will use a low ph spray and then run the acid rinse at 3. and then flush it a little more than normal.
