2.5 Difference From 2"

I've takin' a hell of an ass whooping the last week or so since I upgraded the Thermalwave Vortec to a 2.5 hose. I most always use the Ti wand, which is Greenglide equipt with the slotted version. That wand now stays glued to the carpet on most tight naps, except for a heavy shag or Freize. I'm feeling it these 62 year old bones. Glad I got a young, tough helper. But I noticed that he has noticed the difference, but to proud to complain.

Oh, did I mention that it really gets the carpet dry? I'm not sure if I want a Zipper now.....

Two things:

If you're vacuuming, get a hole glide.

If you're primarily cleaning residential, don't get a zipper.

If you find yourself doing hwe on a lot of commercial, get a zipper.

Or, go vlm.

Why would you want to weld an elbow into your waste tank? A straight pipe will offer less resistance.

Not looking to weld. There's a part that PMF (I think) makes. It looked like a 2.5 inch metal piece with a gentle bend in it. I think I'd like the bend, to help keep hoses off my machine.

Typically the Greenie elbows are installed on the recovery tank lid. A 2.5" hole is cut and 4 small bolt holes are drilled through the lid to secure the elbow and gasket. I'm not familiar with Cleanco tanks but it may be possible to install the elbow on the side or end. Turn the elbow to suit your specific arrangement.

If you're fighting the wand that hard, you're doing yourself and your helper a dis-service.
With all the repetitious movements we all do, it is not a question of if but when will your body be damaged.

The most important tool you have is your body. Not taking good care of it (having to exert too much effort) is a big mistake, with possible dire consequences.
Even when the reward is reduction in drying time, not to mention the potential loss of bragging rights.

i tried a prochem quad with slots and a butler, really hard to push. RW get a hybrid or hole glide. you will get great cleaning and easier push. slots are for apt. guys who don't know what pre-vac means.

You do know that you need a 2.5" nipple on your waste tank to get full suction from your 2.5" hose.

I'll be going from waste tank to Devastator to wand. I use Flash cuffs but maybe something different between Devastator and waste tank?

Russ, I have the same set up as you; and I thought about doing exactly what you want to do. Then I thought why make that modification if can get better backside draw without it. I decided instead to run 2 short sections of 2" (5 to 10 feet) from the vac tank to a devastator then out with the 2.5". This will allow greater flow (CFM) at the van side of the devastator than a single 2.5", and no tank modifications needed. To simplify things I'll leave the two sections of 2 inch hooked up. I'll use cool cuffs connections at the tank and vinyl cuffs (in case they hit the ground during set up) at the devastator on the van side. Then 2.5 male cool cuff off job side of the devastator. Just the option that seemed to make sense to me.

I thought I read that 1, 2.5" hose allowed more air through it than 2, 2" hoses. That doesn't sound right though.

Mine is set up kinda like Jim said, I have two 2 inch hoses about 8 feet long coming off my filter box at the back of the van. They run up and attach to a Y near my hose real and then I come off of that with 2.5 inch. But i like the idea of two 2 inch into a devastator then coming out with 2.5.

2.5" hose flows 56% more than 2", all other things equal.

So Russ, yes two 2" hoses in parallel flow more than a single 2.5".

I probably got the idea from you Nate. I like the idea of stronger CFM between the Van and a restriction/choke point (Dev filter)

Well, there you go. Ray has some in stock, and not a bad price!
CMS in Northern Cali. And those look like smooth flow elbows, which is what you want if you are using an elbow.
