Stainless steel fittings, will these work???

Don't know much about stainless steel, I do know they have different grades. I believe 304 ss is most common for our acceptations???


So, with suppliers wanting 10-15 bucks for these, why not ebay?

Is 304 the "normal" grade of stainless? Seems like every six months or so I'm replacing my brass.

and if you're disty is charging $15 bukz for a simple brass hose barb....if you want me to call them, I'll offer a suggestion where that barb can be placed

The hose barbs in the link are 304 stainless. I know some stainless types are not rust proof, some contain carbon, etc...

The brass ones seem to fail every six months or so. I'd like to not use brass if possible.

ok, so as a machinist for 13 years I can tell you this along with being a carpet cleaner for 10 plus years.

the grade of stainless has nothing to do with how long it lasts for carpet cleaning. 300 series stainless is all chemical resistant, and prone to very little if any rust at all.
its the fact that its made out of a harder material and the little steel balls in the female quick connect will not damage the stainless steel as quickly as the brass.
I have a set of stainless steel on one solution line that I have had on there for 4 years now.

if you look at a brass male quick connect you will see lots of little dimples where the steel balls that help lock it together have damaged the brass.

If you pressure wash, or clean a lot of tile and grout I recommend the stainless, as it doesn't damage as easy, but if you clean carpet more then stainless will just last you a lot longer.

stainless buddy if you can afford it.

It's the products/rinse I'm using or the water quality, don't know. The fittings end up developing pin hole air leaks from something eating/weakening them... My guess anyways.

I'm trying to rinse out any product residue at the end of my day, but it doesn't always get done. Winters coming and one of these fitting is no doubt going to fail... Better to change them now.

yeah I don't see why not, stainless is stronger than brass, my guess would be that either the brass is getting eaten or your somehow bending the brass and putting a small crack in it when the tube slides against the threaded area. try the stainless.
