Apparently Aron doesn't watch enough of our own vidoes

He didn't pay attention to the line starting to Vibrate. By the time he discovered it, it is frozen 3 feet up the line.

Told him get busy figuring it out... He at least has the high pressure line reeled in at this time while getting that air vent tube unplugged and thawed out. If he would have caught the shaking line, would have not froze up completely

Oy! I'm so thankful we never get that cold here! We've only ever had one freeze up, and it was the brass on the front of the machine, the solution hook up froze in less than two minutes thanks to a very cold wind. It was like 10 degrees outside but really windy.

Took Aron about 15 minutes to get to it, pull that vent hose inside and beat the crap (ice) out of it.

He forgot about that hose until his phone call.

Said didn't notice the hose vibrating so curious why.

But 2 more to go for them..

Nothing like learning by fire... Err... Cold...

Pic 1 - all freez-ables are boxed in .. black hose hanging out is engine exhaust (blower exhaust heats the van)
Pic 2 - Ill use board on the right to keep my panel items from freezing - cut out for vac, solution and pump out
Pic3 - Ill use this board along with the board from pic 2 to keep things warm

Closing the left door leaves just enough air flow to feed the engine and keep things toasty inside

It really gets tough. I have had my water tank freeze up just driving down the road. all equipment stayed fine but the water in the tank sitting on the van floor froze and I had to fill the tank 3/4 with hot water just to melt enough ice to uncover the hole in the bottom so I could clean.

time to buy a submersible heater for in your tank. like a water heater element but lower temp.

I've wondered about using a bucket heater to heat water in the fresh water tank as an extra heat source in the van. Can these things be used over night to heat up that big mass of water?

Our in plant machine started and they cleaned for about an hour, then went to monitor a water loss and came back and the blower was frozen up. : (

It can be tricky cleaning in that stuff. I've cleaned 1x in -18 degree weather and it was miserable. Fortunately my box truck stays about 60 degrees inside. It's insulated extremely well.

Mark's always about 20 degrees colder than us. It is absolutely frigid here and I'm not working until Wednesday.

Mark, you guys are hardcore. I think I'm pretty darn good but I salute you guys.

Next year, I'll see you in FL at this time!

I had the "On Call" crew out late Saturday night with a small water loss. It was cold!!!

I felt bad sending them but the homeowner was desperate.

Extractions can be tough when it's super cold...ever freeze up your vac hose/ports?

Yea, many times. Hate when that happens but not too much you can do about it. The van can be warm but the air passing into the inlet is cooled through the hose. :errf:

You must have forgot, go inside of van and find that hose and put a 6 inch slit with a knife near the top. When it freezes, air will still get into tank. This will also stop the tank filling issues.

I'm glad I don't have to worry about freezing issues but I don't understand what you posted.....Maybe it's because I never experienced it before.....?

The hose that froze on mark goes to the top of the fresh water tank as a vent. Cutting a six inch slit in the hose will allow air to get in or out of tank if end of hose freezes shut. Tim Clark at butler use to tell every one this trick when you picked up your new unit. The slit will be length wise.

too bad they couldnt put a breather on the top of the tank like they do for house plumbing, lets air in but nothing out.

mark if you decide to use that type of air inlet, i strongly suggest making the air inlet as high as you can in your can, just incase the slosh wants to push it open.

I did this 2 years ago. My neighbor had a pipe freeze and flood the basement. it was -30 or so but I went anyway. By the time I finished my 2 inch hose was 1/2 inch on the inside. I just shoved my hose in the van and dealt with it the next day once everything had melted.
