The guy with mediocre equipment and a great attitude towards customer service will do fine. The guy with great equipment, chems and cleaning procedures but lacking somewhat in, ah, social skills can do OK as well.

Add the two together and add a dash of business knowledge and some marketing skills and there's no stopping that guy (or gal)!
