I think an oscillator and a good pad and encap detergent would outperform any portable.

But Steve encrap is just a appearance management shampoo method.
At least with a walkbehind you will be removing some dirt not swishing it around.
And the fact they probably won't really vacuum before hand ( Which is the only real cleaning step in encap) makes encap over the long haul unacceptable.

I'd tell them to get something locally that's from the closes supply house they'd be doing business with.. Find out what they offer and go from there, unless they're shipping everything in..

Kinda shocked someone hasnt mentioned the dwell Pro. hook to the sink, auto dump.....pressure up to 1200psi....I havent used tons of porty's, but it is by far more powerful than anything I have ever used.......Run it with a zipper with no problems at all.

The real question in a school situation is how poorly maintained the equipment will be. Nobody will keep it cleaned up........nobody will fix it. So you need the simplest type of equipment there is.

A walkbehind is the answer. The only issue I saw was janitors cleaning out clogged jets from sitting too long in the slop sink room with a piece of wire. Never mind the glug glug of too much extraction formula.

There are a lot of lowly janitors that take pride in their equipment and their jobs. Even Janitors at Schools can take pride in their work.

Lets look at the cleaning closet in the school and compare it to the back of your O/O truck?

Only get these guys a walk behind because they can't fook it up? Never mind that the walk behinds have more suction at the carpet machine interface than many of the Box extractors at 30 feet of hose with a wand.....

Until you've been a janitor, it is hard to appreciate how much efficiency matters. Equipment has to be rolled down endless hallways, used and returned to a cramped afterthought of a closet.
Portys and hoses mean many trips.
I stand by the walk behind, or frankly even with my personal darling, the DP420. Tile, carpet, VCT all scrubbable and the machine is simplicity itself.

So is a 175, with the right brushes and bonnets.

What it comes down to is the quality of machine and proper training, not half assed shit...

It doesn't matter if it's in-house cleaners or janitors at schools... Train them properly and they'll do a good job... Believe it or not, janitors at schools are jack of all trades and a master of none...

Look at some of these cleaners who can't turn a wrench.... I rest my case...

I really don't like the encap option. You have a school full of little kids spraying boogers and God knows what else all over the place. Rubbing that cocktail into the carpet isn't anything close to cleaning for health which should be the first concern not appearance.

Water supply has NEVER been an issue. Gotta remember, you can have a unlimited supply really of water line supplying the pressure pump. And then, you can run 150 foot of vac hose to the zipper.......I havent found a single commercial building that I couldnt hook up, and successfully clean everything within the building. vacant homes with water shut off? No problem, the dwell will siphon out of a bucket, or a poly drum filled with water. As far as HWE is concerned, it is by far the most versatile tool that I own. Its only limitation is extreme heat, but as long as your niche isnt greasy restaurants, good chem's and agitation powers through everything else without even a hiccup.

Agreed, schools should not be encapped.

Vac, scrub, rinse then buff out the wicking if need be

Using a carpet santizer for your extraction formula gets rid of the nasties.

Like ive said before we vacd nightly with pile lifters. We had no soil load or very little.

Yeah you would have to run a lot of hose from what I remember. We did a lot of bucket brigading.
