It was a Larry Cobb type day.

Started with a guy calling to find a carpet cleaner to clean his inlaw's new place here in town.
Says his wife is in NV helping her parents move and she found us in the yellow pages (doubtful) and asked him to call us..

He has some questions beyond what a civilian would ask and I figure out he is from Texas, use to work for Ray at Cobbs as a cleaner, now owns a high end and restoration biz and is one of Larry's best customers.
I proceed to tell him that Larry and I are friends and do a lot of business together. I give him the MB story and get a "I dont have time for all the internet drama bullshit but I know who you are, you got the job."..

She called back to confirm an estimate and a not a minute later Larry calls me on a totally unrelated subject.

Even funnier was when after I walked her inlaw's place she was adamant about coming out to see the insides of my van (who can blame her what a great way to see if the Carpet Cleaner is a "clean" person.) She was impressed with how tidy it was but didn't ask a thing about all the gadgets or what size blower or how much lift I can crank out of my 370.
Then it was time to crack Larry Cobb jokes. "I know right, 8 ounces of Powermax per gallon, who is he trying to kid" How much do you want to charge me for the same 40 volume I can get at Salley's" "Have you seen his desk" and so on and so forth...

and not five minutes later I get a PM off Facebook from a guy asking about my video I did with Larry on his truckmount..

He wanted to know what I really thing about that unit.

Rather than text him back I'll just say it here.

Pro's-
  • Great value
  • Plenty of heat and suck
  • Very simple and easy to work on
  • Not propane
  • Fresh and filthy water tanks built in
  • Built buy a real company and not some dude in his Sears tool shed.
  • 17" baby!
  • Very little to go wrong
Cons-

  • Fugly.
  • So wide it takes up the entire side door on most cargo vans. Perfect for a box truck or cab over.
  • No 1-800 number for weekends and evening diagnostics
  • No Cobbs FaceBook Group to bitch that your machine shuts off when the tank fills up
  • Most Lawnmower shops wont work on truckmounts so you better be handy and not a moron.
  • On the noisy side

I'd get this one..

DC538s.jpg

DC538 - Truckmount 35 HP #5MR HX

$17,895.00

DC 538, 35 HP Kohler 100-75Gal #5MR HX
The Multi-Surface Truckmount That You Can Trust

    • 600 PSI - CARPET

    • 150' High Pressure Solution & SuperFlex Vac Hoses

My unimportant opinion on Cobb's truck mounts are, thank you for enlightening me on Cobbs truck mounts. When I was active on "the other" forum for several years, I only heard negative comments about these truck mounts, and it wasn't from a lot of people. It was mainly from ONE person, and we know who that one person is, robert.

I always believed him, because NOBODY, disagreed with his comments he made about them. For some reason, everyone believed him also. And since there were no disputes nor anyone that I saw that had real experience in Cobbs machines, I thought they weren't worth considering buying one.

But from the close up details that I've just seen, and hearing Larry's description of his designs and why he designed it a certain way, makes more sense that these seem like a well made truck mount.

Thanks Mike for doing the video, and webinar with Larry, and I'm sorry for being so gullible over the years. This line of truck mounts will be on my list of considerations when it comes time to invest again

What other units are in consideration?
I've been looking at some used butler systems. Which would be nice but for one that's going to last me for many years is out of my price range right now. Looking at leasing an 870 or an Apex as well, which I know are huge and quite different than Cobbs.
Why Cobbs tickle my fancy. I love simplicity and something I could easily work on, since I'm up in the woods and have to trouble shoot and work on everything myself. The performance looks really good. It's all in one, which I like.

Now that Larry is no longer using NNEZ to provide parts for his units, I'd like to see him up his game in the fit and finish department.

Who needs labels?
If one cannot master and identify the controls and connections on a TM after a 1 minute tutorial...
Do they really belong running a TM?
