He called me a couple of times and we talked. He was interested in adding Air Ducts. I expected to see him in Hotlanta, but didn't.

He already had a house cleaning busines and was just looking to capitalize on the client list.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Most municpalities require you to have a business license if you want to operate within their city limits. You can get away with not having one but some towns have bylaw enforcement people that will check you and fine you if you are not licensed. Usually more often in small towns. Larger cities often lack enforcement but if you ever want to contest a parking ticket or some such thing, the first thing the judge asks you is, do you have a business licence.

Every little podunk town in this state requires you to have a business license. I have one town with less than 50 houses in it. I get called to go there once every couple of years for one family. Yet, the town wants a yearly $150 license.

Ours is by county and we have 6 counties all dipping into the river here so I got em all...sigh..

Here you have to gave one through the state, there are also many towns (around 10-15) that I think require them as well to operate within their town limits. I may or may not have all of them.

Where I live you can get a mobile license. It covers the whole valley. Approx. 10 cities, communities, etc. it used to be I needed one for for every one.... I would only get one for about 5-6 like Mike does. Mobile business owners that were members of the Chamber of Commerce( myself included), were putting pressure on the local powers that be. In 2014, they changed the rules, and now I pay 185.00 a year, for all the communities....

I had to register my business name with the state to get a tax ID number but that's all that I'm aware of. That costs ten bucks every three or five years I can't remember which.

Wow crazy how states differ if that's all you need, Delaware is $75 per year, but then any town can require an additional license if they choose to

Jeff, they did the same thing here but have limited it to general contractors and their sub trades. I tried to apply for a mobile license but apparently it is not applicable to mobile businesses like carpet cleaning. I am going to join the chamber of commerce in New Westminster and see if I can straighten that out. The way it works now, the guy who install carpets can get a licence buy the guy who cleans them can't. That's the kind of talent our tax dollars buys.
