We got about 10-12" yesterday and last night so what does the city do? Call off school. Oh great. How about sending a plow here so we can get off our street. Having to postpone 10 jobs right before the holiday is not fun. Plus my snow thrower doesn't like this heavy wet stuff. Woe is me.

Hey you guys in the snow areas: do you get chains for your trucks? What works best?

Ive been a carpet cleaner in Michigan for 43 years but today's weather takes the cake!

Shoveled and ran the snowblower four times yesterday to keep the drive and sidewalks clear.

Rescheduled my morning job but that's all. Got a late night restaurant tonight that I'm hoping the streets are better by then.

Hmmmm can't post photos from my phone anymore. Says files to big. Never happened before.

We got that same 10"-12" of snow yesterday as well. All our crews are going out! The only jobs cancelled or rescheduled are ones where the customers themselves didn't want us out.

40 mile drive into work this morning took me about 40 minutes.

We got 9 inches a couple of years ago and they closed everything and told everyone to stay off the roads so they could clear them.

That's a tough one Steve. :errf:

My experience is even if they plowed the main streets, we get stuck on a side street or in the customers drive.

I've been getting "the file is too big' notification also. :headscratch:

:eekk: Do a few of them get stuck? That's a lot of crews in the mess.

Wow, Brian, that's really great that you're giving this a go. We've done what you're doing many times and always hate it. Side streets are unplowed, customers are not ready. Pain in the butt. Hope all goes well for your crews.

We have snow events like this once or twice per year, so we have experienced it in the past. For the most part, the crews know what driveways to pull into and which ones not. It's not too often we get a truck stuck and need a tow. ( Knock on wood)

This time of year is still busy and we only have a couple of more weeks before we go into our slow period. As difficult as it is to get to the customer's homes, we need to take advantage of the business while we can.

This is the one year I didn't put snow tires on my truck. The last 4 years we didn't have any snow at all and I keep burning up my snow tires on the highway. so I said the hell with it this year and of course it has been snowing non stop for almost a week now. Our main streets are pretty clear once the crews get to work but our side streets are atrocious. I had to pick up my grand daughter yesterday. good thing I had my wife's Blazer. Needed the Low 4 wheel drive just to get up the street. My jobs today are all portable, I am delaying until rush hour is over and I am just going to take a Dodge Caravan that I put snows on and bring my small Rustler portable. No use risking my primary vehicle for that kind of work. we are heading into a deep freeze for the next few days. Temps are going to drop to about 22 degrees f. Serious stuff for Vancouverites.

3pm, a full day after much of the storm and they still haven't plowed my street or the nearby park that many walk through every day.

I want my tax dollars back!

I live on a private road and we pay for our own road maintenance. My street has been plowed at least 4 times since Saturday night. They also cleared out the front of everyone's driveway so that there wasn't a big snow mound to have to drive over.

That's the difference between public sector and private sector....

And then your taxes pay for the others.

We are still waiting for it to rain. Temp last night was 14 degrees f. Currently it's 25 degrees f. The Farmers almanac says it's going to be a long cold winter. Environment Canada says, "not so much". I think I will believe the farmer when he speaks.

Snow tires are not going to keep you out of the ditch , if you're in the ditch it's simply because you don't know how to drive in the snow or someone that doesn't know how to drive in the snow put you in the ditch.

Mike , it seems you're having a hard time rapping your head around this winter driving stuff :headscratch::smile:

too many to swap over?

how many of your Butlers end up stuck in a ditch every winter?

We might have a couple per year stuck and need a tow out. As others have said, most of our crews know how to drive in snow. If we do get stuck it's usually because we don't know exactly where the driveway is located.

Overall though it's never been anything serious, knock on wood!! (not that I'm superstitious, but why take chances)
