I want to put an APO on my TM, but I have several questions.

How much does the location of the hole matter? Which side of the tank?
How large does the hole need to be?
How far off the bottom?
Do I need a float switch?
What type of filter between the hole and pump do I need to get?

Are you planning on purchasing the APO, or are you going to make it yourself?

That would determine answering your questions.

Then the holes and such will be determined after you purchase the parts.

I made my own also, but it took a few re-do's to get it to perform flawlessly for weeks, cleaning every day during the week, without having to attend to the filter at all for months at a time. The pump uses an elctro-magnetic impeller shaft instead of an electric motor.

The filter will be a challenge. You need a fairly large filter so it doesn't clog during every job. My filter is round with slats instead of holes, and is covered with a knee-high nylon stocking.

I have one of these pumps running in my Koi Pond 24/7/365 (that is including all winter long) that has been on for 5 years now, continuously!!

I had to replace the impeller shaft only once - less than $30.

the bottom hole that hooks the line up to the APO is 4 inches center off the bottom of the tank...the one that the float switch goes in is 10 inches center off the bottom of the tank...the hole side is 1 1/4...this is standard location and size for the float switch....you can put them on the bottom front right side...or the left side bottom right...that is also pretty much standard...

If you filter everything coming into the machine ( like you should be )...then you do not need a filter to the APO..

Personally...if your going to go this far with it...just invest in a good APO and be done with it...they last a long time...easy to service and are very dependable...

Hypro or Comet are the best out there....
