Just lost my foreman to a local trucking company, who made him an offer he should not refuse.

I can't help but be happy for him, but after three years I've gotten used to having him around. Guess the economy is suddenly heating up, that's all four elves gone. Back to soloing, I suppose.

You might want to check if you have any temporary labor agencies in the neighborhood. I have used one before and although it was pricey, they paid the workers comp and taxes.

In time, maybe. But I'll only take someone I can trust into a customer's home or business.

Try craigslist. I just reran an ad that never pulled very well before and we got a ton of apps.

None of my elves would have. But especially when the season is slow, they can't be blamed for taking better paying jobs.
No bridges burned, they are all good young people with (I hope) bright futures.

Not much you can do. Just hope you've made them better people and that they have grown having worked with you and your company.
