Water softener vs. Reverse Osmosis...

I know a lot of you guys run a softener, does anyone use RO for water? If not, why not? I'm pushing into other areas of cleaning, and using distilled is out of the question.... It's north of 10k, and uses 220v......

Soft Water is fine for carpet cleaning. RO offers a modest improvement when cleaning carpet. RO really shines for window cleaning.

So just for clarification Scott, will I see a marked improvement using RO over a softener if we are just talking carpets? I need WAY better quality for the other areas I mentioned. Thank you for your response.

I have used a water softener. I never used RO in my own business, just gotg opinions from others who used it and was along on a few jobs. I never saw a marked difference in the final results when cleaning carpet. But there are probably a few RO users who will disagree.

I have a litle more experience with RO and multi-story wiondow washing poles. The difference there was noticably better.

I am a strong proponent for RO water in cleaning,
and more importantly efficient rinsing of carpet & fabrics.

We believe in it so strongly that we have designed it into one model of our TM.


The carpet mills all want less residue left in the carpet,

and RO system is the best way to achieve that goal.

Our customers with the RO system tell me they can obtain with one rinse stroke,

what previously took two rinse strokes.

Also carpet is left with a softer hand with no rinse additives.
