The Bloss Humanitarian Award got me thinking about who in the industry impressed me most the first time I met them

Two men came to mind immediately as NOT being the typical salesman with a Buckboard wagon full of tin/copper pots and elixirs to sell .

The two men certainly had wares to sell, but I saw something more than just honest broker salesmen.
My spidy senses told me they were/are rare individuals and not just "common men" among men .
They impressed me as rather extraordinary individuals from the first time I met them 25+ years ago

I have met many I have really enjoyed meeting....but I do want to comment about Ralph Bloss (and sorry I never had the chance to meet him in person)

My dad and other family members talk about him and what they learned while taking education classes from him, or meeting him at conventions....many positive great stories!

So even though I did not have the opportunity to meet him personally, he has still had a positive effect on my life from stories my dad shares with me.

My dad turned 80 years of age this year....I really enjoy talking about carpet cleaning with him and my family....really do enjoy talking about what has transpired over time

Bill Yeadon has always been a hoot for me to meet and talk with.....

And....I really did (and do) enjoy meeting Marty @hogjowl (He makes me smile everyday when he posts here after meeting him in person )

I am actually also pretty bummed I didn't get to meet Ken Snow in person....

I talked with him many times on the phone and was looking forward to meeting him at my first Mikey's Fest....and then he unfortunately passed

So many great people in our industry....I love meeting them all....just a super nerd cleaner here

Ed York definitely made an impression the first time we met, not a typical salesman, but definitely a salesman.

In my early years with this industry, I was pretty quiet and kept to myself, still tend that direction. I was impressed by those I saw as industry leaders who sought me out and befriended me with no agenda other than to be a friend. Ralph Bloss was one of the first. Later Bill Yeadon and Ken Snow also fit that description. Although this does not fit as "first impression" I also have to mention the friendship and kindness of Papa Nick even after I went to work for the competition.

My first contacts into this industry were Rick Stickel and Dave Hanks. Dave Hanks impressed me enough to move 1600 miles from Ohio to Utah for an undefined position. Rick Stickel kindly recommended me and he obviously impressed Dave Hanks enough to hire me. I have stayed in the industry for almost 20 years as our industry has a lot of hard working people and is complex enough to keep me learning something new on a regular basis.

I remember meeting Ken at a UCCI trade show. I kept thinking: "This guy is too nice of a person to be running such a big operation. There has to be something hidden I don't see".

What I didn't realize at the time was that the hidden part was that he was an even better human being than most knew.

The world remains a poorer place without him.

Most of the people from this board that I met in real life/Mikey Fest I'm impressed with. So Mark Saiger...great guy and really nice wife, Mikey, Damon, Bill Yeadon Marty Sutley and others. I was impressed with Joey Harper...and his crew. We have some very sharp guys in this industry. Seeing these guys set up and work at Ronald McDonald House was cool.
