Which CRB brushes for which jobs?

Ordered a 10" CRB from Excellent Supply today. For which applications do yall use the soft, standard, and stiff brushes?

standard brushes on all synthetic carpet, soft wool brushes on wool and silk. Break in your brushes on concrete before using.

Stiff on berber or olefin carpet and in most case, poly carpet and other synthetic..be better if it is wet. Standard on all synthetic. Soft on wool/silk...i never break them in. Plug and go, kick it if it needs help starting..

Medium for nice nylon, stiff for all poly and trashed nylon

Use a 12 gage cord and it may start better. You could be damaging the motor with to. Small of a cord.

I was working with a large client last week who uses the 15" CRB machines on all their commercial carpet as a pre-scrub machine. They use them with the recovery trays for dry soil recovery and to pull up the carpet nap prior to cleaning. They've recently started using the "FIRM" brushes (broken in) for servicing nylon loop carpet. Their results are impressive.

The "standard" brushes are middle of the road and are awesome for just about everything. They can handle the lion's share of residential and commercial carpet. However the "firm" brushes really dig in on commercial loop carpet. Running the firm brushes on commercial loop gets the pile to stand up. For commercial loop carpet the "firm" brushes kick it up a notch. On the other hand, the "soft" brushes are better for delicate fiber (i.e. persian/oriental/silk rugs, soft saxony, frieze, etc).

Which brushes to scrub travertine? If stiff (brown), should they be broken in before scrubbing natural stone? I don't want to have to polish the floor after I clean it.

I'd try the white or medium first but I use the brown or stiff for just about everything now.

Johnny, when you start the machine, first tip it slightly. That gets the brush out of the carpet and prevents stressing the motor.

They ain't that stiff, go for it.

Use the proper cord and that may not happen. When I switched mine from 14 to 10 gage the problem went away.

Boosting the guage is a very good idea. But on my machine, the bristles like to embed themselves and a little tip lets the motor start up without resistance.

Steve, did you put in a decent switch, too?

No I like the pedal switch. Mine use to dig in too until I started using the bigger cord.
