Over Christmas my buddy called and said his basement had flooded. We were super busy with company so I was unable to come extract with my truckmount, but feeling bad I loaned my portable, water claw and fans. Now today I cone to use my portable for the first time since then and my extension cord is fried. I put a new end on it but it won't heat my water. It's always heated fairly quickly so I'm thinking I'm F'd. Does anyone have any other suggestions other than to not borrow my shit out?

He probably failed to dump the water often enough and just moved the flood from the floor to the Inside of your portable where the wiring is kept. Water conducts electricity, this water may have shorted out a circuit board or wire that connects to your heater. Look for burnt wires or circuit board and replace.

If you didn't give your friend hands on training on how to use the portable-- then sorry it's not his fault.

I gave very descriptive instructions, but I have a feeling they didn't get relayed to all the people involved with the clean-up.

Some of those wires look like they got over heated. Also check where the wires connect to the switches. On some models the wires can get wet when filling the fresh water tank if not careful.

after thinking about it for awhile-- this is what may have happened also:

They were using the porty to extract flooded water ---not to clean the carpet
they turned on the heater and or pump which they Did Not need to do. Since they weren't using the rinsing water, the heater may have over heated and burned out.
your friend should at least offer to pay for some of the repairs.
good luck

Also grab a multimeter and check for voltage at the heater element.

If you haven’t checked an appliance or other electric device while it has power connected don’t make this one your first one get son3one that know how and be careful.

Was your friend wearing booties when using your equipment? If not that alone shows you he didn't care for it. :winky:

Dealtimeman man sleeps in a pair. Oh not out of respect, they have a new mattress and his wife doesn't want his funky feet touching it. :winky:

Take a deposit to loan things. Check everything with the person before you lend it and have them sign off on thaybits working or any damage, scratches etc. and again when they return it. (Like when toubrent a car)

Then give them the deposit back if everything is functioning properly and not damaged.

Might as well open an equipment rental business.
