I was reading the "manners post" by Mikey and decided to add this post regarding disgusting people and terrible environments...I can go on forever but here's I still can't believe I didn't call the health dept. on:

I get a call to clean a lady's house on the east side of town (rare area that I don't handle) anyway upon arrival she lived in a culdesac and pretty much the entire house was wide open (it's 110 out mid June Las Vegas) Windows, doors, garage, car doors, everything...I said to myself WTF... As I get out of my van the lady is standing next to me (about 65ish) and says, I am so sorry I haven't had time to clean up the house but I am willing to pay you anything to clean my floors...My mind is now thing big money! OK as I am walking towards the house I see what appears shit on the floors everywhere, pigeons living in the home, a complete disaster zone you might see on Hoarders. I am now inside the house as she tells me her husband had just died of Alzheimer's, and she is struggling with medical problems as well...At this point, I'm telling myself "get the f out of here" As I am walking back to my van ready to puke she says are you prepared to go to work I'll pay anything, I actually said NO, I drove off fast! It was human shit everywhere and pigeons inside the home...Good Lord! (This happened about 3 years ago)

I used to do some work in a retirement home and had a few like that. I had one that made me gag a few times. Why they let those old people live in those conditions is beyond me.

I had another one in an apartment that a lawyer hires me to do for an alcoholic he tries to help. The smell of liquor, feces and human urine was awful. I had to go home and take a shower afterwards. The stench was unbearable. Had to clean the furniture and carpet, trying to not touch anything. On top of that there was tobacco juice everywhere.

We clean up after hoarders. Which those jobs range from tons of clutter to gross, disgusting, unhealthy living environments. Had a crew leader quit on one we did a few years back. She said the smell, the roaches, dead cats were more than she could take. She refused to go back. She had a full face respirator and tyvek suit and was being paid double time. She said it wasn't enough. lol

Had a mentally disabled fella we cleaned for. He had trust money and lived in a beautiful home with nice pool.

He cutout pictures of high school athletes from the newspaper and had them taped to the wall. Giant industrial jars of Vaseline and Kleenex all over the place.

Tough to get any of our crew to go back a second time once they had cleaned for him. lol

Had a house where the carpet was so full of marijuana tar my feet stuck to the floor.

Two suicide clean-ups make the top of my list. In one case, wife waited 8 months to clean up so that she could pay for it out of the insurance proceeds which took a while to collect. Second one used a shotgun which resulted in the visceral matter being spread across a wide area.

A refrigerator full of meat and more that had the power cut off for 3 weeks would also be near the top of the list.

The worst thing I’ve ever seen was an elderly woman sitting in a straight back chair with a shotgun in her lap. He head was all over the wall behind her.

worst one for me doesnt compare to a suicide clean up, but we did call CPS for the poor little girl that was in the home.

There was dog shit everywhere, white trash pos sitting on the couch in filthy wife beater drinking beer at 9am wouldnt even get up to answer the door. He saw our reaction and said "heres the carpet, now clean it!" probably a hundred piles of moldy dog shit and his daughter playing on the floor with them.

I did one of those double barrel shotgun blast to the gut jobs.
Flesh and bones everywhere throughout 3 rooms along with a 2 foot circle of blood scummed over on the top kinda like what you get on the top of old pudding.
Helper and I almost lost it getting that bagged up.

Funny part was when we went out to dinner after that job.
We both busted out laughing at the exact same time
realizing we had both just ordered the barbecued spare ribs.

Nothing that I have done compares to those listed here but I remember one job I had where I was cleaning an apartment that looked filthy but was cleaning up reasonably well. As I was cleaning I looked back on some areas I had just passed the wand over and it looked like I had missed small grains of white rice.
When I looked closer I noticed the grains of rice were moving, they were maggots coming out of the backing to the surface fibers. The steam was driving them out.

reading the trauma posts is causing trauma.

I thought to get into it years ago. I couldnt go through with it. Don’t have the stomach for it.
A friend of mine does it all the time. Goes out to these trauma scenes, cleans them like no big deal then goes out to have lunch like nothing ever happen.
No sir ree bob...not me. I”ll stick to cat dog pee jobs.
Good money in it though.

The rule at our house, "No rice for dinner on the nights the work includes maggots."
