Many new condos being built in the Vancouver area are utilizing hard surface floors for all areas except for the bedrooms. Rather than bemoan the shortage of carpet, it's better to raise your minimum rates and rejoice in the highly profitable small jobs that result. For example for today, I had one truck mount job in a house for $350. My next 2 jobs were 2 bedrooms in a condo for $150, total time 35 minutes, and 1 bedroom in a condo for $150, total time 25 minutes. Leaving me time to do more jobs or go back to the shop, drink beer and annoy people on MB.

I agree. You can get spoiled on bedrooms only. Did a house this week that had 3000 sqft of carpet. Felt like I was there all day.

Same in my area. Since I'm a room pricer I come out great on those 3 small BR jobs. I would rather knock out 3 or 4 of those in a day instead of a huge house.

While you there make another 100 bucks cleaning ten panes of windows..takes like 30 to 45 mins..
Sorry Derrick, but I do windows aswell....
THEY SUCK....
The only time people want me to do them, is when the windows are either DISGUSTING, and all need to be scraped, or stained from the hot tub, or completely inaccessible.....
I hate them....

I dont mind em. So far ive been doin $200 min window homes along with carpet cleaning. The way i figure is less house you clean by making more money off each those house uses up less gas and etc.

After watching some of those guys on fb doing making 150$ per house because of fewer carpeted house and having to do 5 to 6 jobs per day doesn't seem profitable considering the overhead..

Since ive been doing two years straight, i have been increasingly get more $500 single job at least one per day. Not always but getting there. When i get that truckmount, i am sure my productivity will increase where i can take on a couple per day during spring to Fall.

There’s an English guy in town who started 3 years ago.
I see him and his crew on ALOT of the higher end homes I clean.
He’s also in some of the more prestigious landmark 2-6 story buildings I take care of...
He’s making a lot of money, cause his equipment and trucks are all new, and his crew bangs jobs off like clockwork.....
Him, his crew, his equipment are truly professional.
He told me this past week, he’s booked into October....
He’s doing everything right...

yep I know couple window cleaners who average $80 an hr which is damn impressive when you look at the equipment buy in and running cost vs a carpet cleaner

I worked on big construction for almost 2 decades.
I’m happy to be working on solid ground every job, and to make a very good living off of it.
There were jobs that I was hanging over the edge, harnessed, 185-225’ off the ground.....
I don’t hate heights, I respect them...
Windows are vertical work, can be good money, possibly dangerous for you, or you’re crew....
I choose to focus on floor care....
