Wasn't it Service Magic before they changed the name to Home Advisor? Customers got smart and would Google us when they seen our ad with SM... Saved us the $15 or $20 lead fee...

IMHO, It works well if you are the cheapest cleaner in town. It works well if you are able to reply to every lead immediately. I wanted to expand my territory in 2009 and gave them a try - ooops

They will advertise a new Home Advisor phone number in the name of your business for clients to call. This number is heavily marketed with great SEO on the interweb. You will pay for all leads, weather you win the work or not, even if the lead was invalid or never replies to you.

So unless your web presence is stronger than them, even when existing customers search for specifically you on the web, you will sometimes be paying Service Magic for leads from your own customers.

Even worse, when you have had enough and realize you want a divorce from them, that Home Advisor phone number remains for a looong time on the web associated to your business name. But the number does not go dead, they just redirect the leads for your business name to current paying advertisers.

Invest that time and money into your own web work so you beat them out on local google searches. Winning google is the gift that keeps on giving.

I used them. I lost money with them. I never got quality leads. If you are busy and can't answer every call every time the phone rings, don't do it. The first one to call the customer usually gets the job.
I have also heard they way they market will screw up your SEO work.

Thats what i was looking for thanks. The guy mentioned yesterday that they also do this new google id thing where the customers can access you through there google page (something like that), immidiately i thought that its going to screw my google presence. Im not falling for them. I have a full time job and was hoping that this would bring in enough work to get me to leave my job. Sounds like ill be broke sooner then i could blink.

For heavens sake Nate. Why would you need advertisement. With your family's name recognition?
Hell, didn't your parents or some ancestor, settle the island back in the early B.C times? :winky: .............and were cleaning carpets even back then?

Nah, my mom's from the Big Island and my dad is from Los Angeles...... I basically can play the both sides like Obama does.... Go home Haole, dis our land....But I'm half white......I can also play the minority card too......

Service Magic wasn't used for our cleaning side of the business, it was for the flooring sales and installation side... I choose to clean over being on my knees all day....But them installers make better money than most of the WDR guys.......:eekk:

The first and only job with home advisor on my side was recently done today. It was from the customer who hired them to call me. So, since they weren't charging me any fees, I figured i'd give them a chance.

The credit card numbers they gave me to charge got declined. Yay me. I doubt I'll get that little $125 that I just did today
