What steps have you taken to help with long term and short term to adapt to there being considerably less carpeted areas and a more varied floor covering market? I love cleaning carpets but if that was my lone money maker with the product market share being what it is, times would be tough. I've taught myself how to strip and wax, clean tile and grout, clean engineered wood, clean real wood, refinish concrete floors, apply appropriate finishes when required and grew in a different direction. It's profitable and adds decent cash flow to my bottom line. For the short term I'm doing a big mailer to give a zap to current customers, some local print advertising and a little cold calling to try and stir up things a bit as it's pretty slow since covid hit. I reckon I'll be off close to 40k this year unless I go out and bang the drum. I've done this before and then got swamped as things will usually work.

haven't chased it as an upsell for awhile, as have been busy enough. But was doing windows as a very profitable upsell (I gave those who were after regular window cleaning away)

my slow season I'll sometimes throw a 50% off upholstery with carpet clean, which can add $100-150 per stop.. still hate it even when I charge way more than its worth 😡

I'm still finding lots of carpet to clean. I really don't like tiles, vct or wood. I can do it but prefer carpets. Having the right equipment has a lot to do with it. I seek out jobs where the truck mount makes short work of the job like 3 and 4 story condo buildings. Usually $650-$800 and takes about 4 hours. If I had to do it with a portable I probably wouldn't bid on those jobs. Having higher minimums. Friday I did 3 small jobs in 2 buildings for $450 and was done before noon. Then did a house for $250. I know I have too much equipment for a one man show but having the Cimex and sprayborg opens new opportunities for commercial cleaning. Where we live, there is still tons of carpets that need cleaning. Just a matter if going out and getting it.

why?
It's like getting paid to ride the rides at Disney Land.... 😉

only about 12ft up in that pic.
it was over 30ft to the peak of that house.
not enough clearance to get the machine down the side of the house, so the 50ft boom was stretched up and out every inch of reach to get to peak.
and when stretched out max like that, the basket rocks and sways ..which can be a little disconcerting to the uninitiated
(the guy basket with me got almost as pale at the white trim paint) 🤣

next to my car, you see a little bit of the garage.
I'll be siding it next weekend

thru the week, I carry a clipboard and pencil in my "stubby fingers"
(Steve Bs...I'm watching YOU)
