I know we're supposed to make the carpet as neutral as possible after cleaning, but I never knew what the results would be if it we left it with a ph of 2-3.

Has anyone done any testing to see what the long term results would be?

I know the negative results if the ph is too high (stiffness). But what are the results if it is too low?

are you rinsing with grout acid?

What Mike is trying to ask you is if you are using a product between 2-3 or leaving the fiber at 2-3 after extraction?

An acid rinse agent that reads 2-3 with pH paper or a meter will not leave the carpet at that pH level, but instead it will leave it close to neutral.

Stiffness to carpet yarns is usually more the result of a residue of the product you used, not its pH. A thorough rinsing removes the residue, leaving a soft carpet.

I thought we have covered this over and over. It's not that after a high ph prespray or using an acid rinse etc. It's all about the RESIDUE of either you leave behind. So do a thorough RINSE.

It's a myth that a high PH prespray will leave a residue.

Choose your products wisely and only use those who rinse easily.

I agree with Jim

Do you sell protectant?
isn't it "crunchy" the next day?

with Jim and Jimmy on residue

as far as PH
in the world of W2W synthetic, it's the most overthinking nonsense full of myth, legend and lore there is....

I"m looking at it a different way with a different objective in mind. I have chemspec all fiber rinse that i use for urine treatment with a ph of 1-3. I'm just wondering how the carpet would react after it dried if it were left at that low of ph.

I highly suggest you start using a two to three pH rinse on all your jobs especially those with marble travertine and limestone floors where they'll be sure to remember your fine services

Stop wondering and buy a good ph tester. Test your carpets right after cleaning then 1/2 hour later. The results will surprise you.

Have to agree with Mike on the AFR, even though the smell from the jug was always iffy to me. Have they changed that since?

We used both All Fiber Rinse and All Fiber Deep Clean and had 5 gal jugs of both ready each day. If it was a trashed carpet the All Fiber Deep Clean gave us a little cleanability in the rinse process compared to the AFR but also has some anti-wicking agents in it and it worked very well. If it was high end residential and light-med soil we used AFR. Both have rinsing agents to break up residue. There were a few situations where we presprayed with the Deep Clean and rinsed the carpet with it too when it was a DIY packed full of soap residue and it worked really well. If you rinsed right, both left a soft hand.
