Do the best you can with what you have, just like a lot of entry-level rug plants. You at least have the knowledge to clean rugs on-location without buying them. But I don't have the population base to justify, or the manpower to manouver rugs offsite.

Tom, I agree with some of your thoughts. On cleaning pricing particularly. Charging the same $4psf for pricey/scary rugs AND machine woven poly? (Pricing should reflect cost to do the work plus risk and depth of required knowledge) Poly woven rugs should be a cheap clean, as there's little difficulty, risk or knowledge required.
Throwing every kind of rug into the "sure you can do a good cleaning on site" is wrong though, in the opposite way.
Yesterday an older owner/operator brought in a hand-loomed rayon rug with a hand-tufted style backing. He "lightly steamed" it and it turned yellow. It had a Home Goods label, so I suggested he just go there and see if he could find another. The $279 replacement wasn't a bank-breaker, but the time involved, and the $50 he charged and can't collect, isn't a golden ticket either.
Most on-location cleaners don't have much knowledge about rug cleaning, so every rug is a risk. Unless their entire customer base has poly rugs from Target, the cost will be in buying some rugs.
I whole heartedly agree with this statement. The fifth paragraph in the blog covers this in more detail. One reason that I like to link articles as it covers more eventualities than you can think of in the spur of the moment in a forum post. Most on-location cleaners don't have much knowledge about rug cleaning, so every rug is a risk. I'm shocked how much Urine even a poly rug can hold.. I've had some that needed 3 complete cleanings in the plant.
We sell rugs in all our drop off locations for that reason!I often advise on replacement instead of cleaning on cheaper rugs. Sometimes they take my advise.
Anything worth cleaning? We sell rugs in all our drop off locations for that reason!
Yeah, most are in the $200-$300 range. And virtually no tufted!Anything worth cleaning?
