As English is my strong suit, I suck at math. I measured a church sanctuary today and usually I just break it up and measure the squares but this one was shaped strangely and I don’t know how to calculate the footage. The center section is 63x46. Then what? Someone help.

If you can't figure it out, I won't even try Darcie.

You need angles to solve for an irregular quadrilateral afaik........

edit: I guess it can be done in some cases
I thought something like that. I did measure a diagonal but then couldn’t remember why I needed to. Deep down I must have known how but it’s been a lot of years. This is the first time in 3 years of quoting commercial carpet that I haven’t had a clue where to begin calculating

it's 7928ish (using linked wiki formula)

but if you have the diagonal you can solve the angles because you now have two triangles with known sides

I was a math major in school but did not run the formulas... However my quick version carpet cleaner math that only takes a minute told me 79,555.5 give or take a 100

I got 1672 for the hallways so I made the estimate for 9600
It's not like you're replacing the carpet. so getting the exact square footage isn't going to affect the customer's or your income. I have a church shaped like that and I just do an average square footage if it was just a rectangle. I suck at math also.

Quick way to get a ballpark is to just average the 2 irregular sides.

So box one:

40+46÷2 = 43
56+63÷2 = 59.5

43 x 59.5 = 2558.5 (close enough for carpet cleaning)
