As I get older, I have been thinking of packing up here and moving somewhere cheaper. My wife has her pension already and I will receive a small pension in another 3 years. In August we are going over to Courtenay/Comox on Vancouver Island to look at some properties. Looks like we can sell our condo here, pay off the remaining mortgage and still pay cash for a nice townhouse over there. I will sell the business and equipment here, buy a newer truck mount and just do a part time business over there. No rugs, no water damage, just carpet cleaning. I will keep my Phoenix but get rid of everything else. One truck mount, One phoenix, (maybe I'll keep the Sprayborg for back up). Hard to walk away from my current business but it's either that or expand into something that I really don't to do.

You're in good health so you can clean as long, or as much as you want to.

But it sounds like a good move. Slow down a little, enjoy life while you can.
That's what I am thinking. Less stress, more fishing. The area is large enough with all the normal stores, hospitals, etc but still has a small town feel. I would just build another website and start talking to realtors, etc. If I made $200 a day on one job, that's good money added to our pensions. Get rid of the mortgage, the shop, the high gas bills, etc. We'll see.

Even if you don't do it now, you have a plan of what you want.

at worst, it will be a mini vacation. Beautiful area with lots of seaside pubs and restaurants. Nice walking trails, etc. Going midweek to avoid all the tourists. The cottages where we are staying are owned by a realtor who will show us around. They have a nice welcome package with fresh eggs from their own chickens, home made bread and butter, etc. We need a break anyway.

Your income will decrease once you move because it takes a while to grow a business from scratch.
What will be the property taxes in the new home? Might be better to stay put and "semiretire" where you currently are at.
Sometimes you just need to adjust your mindset/behavior without changing your location.- because no matter where you are-- there You are.

my income may drop but so will my expenses. Immediately by $2000 per month and probably a lot more when I calculate my fuel bills and maintenance on my vehicles.

At his age, he needs to get the best out of life while he can. If this new location gives him the combination of vacation and a part time job...go with it.

Ron do you have other revinue streams?

Would you be willing to get a part time job ( if needed) while your new CC client base grows?
I would consider a part time job but I don't think it would take me too long to start getting customers. I'm pretty good at sales and enjoy talking to people. I would start with commercial and go from there. Did some research on the location and I have some pretty stiff competition but there are always unhappy customers, whether it's the price, personality conflict or perceived quality of the work. Hoping with what I sell here, I can buy a newer truck, dress it up nicely and start knocking on doors.

Rather than sell all of your portables, I would hold one back.

Yea, on your last day duct tape it to the asphalt and run over with your truck. Then put it in reverse and hit it again!

You owe it for all the pain its caused you over the years. šŸ™‚
Actually my portable cleaning is fairly painless. I have great systems and it's as easy as a truck mount even though not as powerful. I watch guys struggle with their portables and just shake my head. You're doing it all wrong.

I think I might have come across as a dick in my 1st response.
If you can do the move and be mortgage-free-- Then It's a good plan that might reduce your stress.
Buy a Ford Transit and put a SS370 in it-- All the cool guys are doing it.🤣
It's great working with a semi-retired attitude.
Best wishes Ron.
