A complete restoration of a flooded and storm damaged church. I mean complete! The first question they asked, can you remove the tree that’s fallen on the sidewalk before church😳 It wasn’t even a jani customer. Just because you have maintenance in your name, they think you do everything.

For me it was back in the winter of 1989, I had a janitorial account that asked me if I knew anyone that could replace their acoustic ceiling tiles and paint the grids white

they were HEAVY SMOKERS, and owners of a travel agency

thought it would take two nights after hours ( 7pm - midnight).

took 2 nights to replace tiles and two nights to paint , fortunately they loved the work and we were paid $25 per man hour plus materials

I don’t know how those mullet MeAtheads do it for a living….

But sometimes I do wonder what I got myself into!

clearly you aren’t charging enough.
raise your prices.

Or if your making more, you may learn to like/tolerate the extra shit

VERY fortunate to have kept 3 solid, capable men (one that could lead when I wasn't there) for 20 years
two have union jobs now, the other went out on his own

and I like sawdust better than soap

Weird where life takes you based on your personality and tolerance for an occupation

I hate doing construction tasks and others look down and/or despise what carpet/upholstery cleaners do

whatever makes you money and doesn’t make you hate your profession😀

That was one area of the restoration we did. The ceiling caved and we replaced tiles and grid. We also relaxed laminate floors in Sunday school wing. We painted, and retextured as well.

T&G job in a restaurant that hadn’t been cleaned properly in 25 years…
It took 3 X longer than I anticipated, and the results were less than dazzling…
I’m my defence, it was within 2 months of starting out, and I had NO FRICKIN IDEA WHAT THE HELL I WAS DOING…

I bid, and got, two local department store VCT strip and wax jobs, about 30k Sq ft each....in the same week.

1971, I was 19 and had experience doing 2 3500 sqft grocery stores with 1 or 2 helpers.

It didn't scale up as I'd planned, had hired frat brothers of a guy I worked with...what a disaster.
