Apparently a mouse some how another got into the engine compartment and has dead there. Now the family van has a routing mouse smell and more pronounced at the turning on of the heater but then subsides after a while. it’s been roughly two weeks from the start of the odor. I’m thinking it’s at the end of the routing process before it completely turns into a wind chime at which point 99% of the odor should be gone¿

meanwhile the odor is there. Any thoughts on getting rid of the odor short of fogging which ain’t going to reach through well enough from the inside to the engine compartment. Have you had and how‘d you handle?

Rummaging through the engine compartment ain’t an option since these modern day autos are engineered that you can’t access anything easily like you can on a 55 Chevy.

I'm guessing??

removing the problem is first priority (you cant polish a turd.. you can roll it in glitter)

ozone or hydroxyl generator while aircon is set on recirculate

hydroxyl will take longer than ozone but safer

I know someone who melted the dash of a corvette into chewing gum consistancy with high level ozone

Those little demon field mice crawl in the walls of my house and die. Time is the only way to fix the smell

What Dan said....

Chemical deodorizers will just create another odor problem.

obviously source removal would be ideal..........but I'd probably try one of those bombs

If it isn't actually in the vent system where you may be able to access under the passenger dash . consider using recirculate rather than fresh on the heater setting if you aren't already to lessen the odor.....assuming its actually in the engine compartment

and it may take longer than usual since the usual decomposition helpers other than bacteria may not have access either

Find the vent, drill hole, vacuum up plastic shards, blow air through an inject Deo, keep it up till air comes clean.if you have a inspection camera for vent cleaning feed through.
If solids are found feed a tube with Velcro make agitation, clean recheck ,re-air flush, seal.
Use vents with out dismantling or removing.
But visual inspection tool is great for this stuff...

Yes a buddy of mine suggested to put under the car directly under engine. Might work but gotta wait for a no wind day.
like president Bush said “Smoke em out of their cave”
