Years back a guy comes in to start up a carpet cleaning business. When he told me he's going to make a fortune at it, I had to slow him down and ask why he thought so:

He said:

"I manage a big department store, and I can never get anyone to show up for an estimate. Whoever I do manage to get, I end up paying whatever he says. Business must be great for guys to act like that."

He was wrong of course, but it is true that a lot of guys just don't work hard to get business.

You would also be surprised how many cleaners don't answer their phones, or use their cells and don't clear out their voice mail and can't be left messages.

I'm pretty sure some people purposely don't set it up or leave it full.. I know of a few..

I purchased one of these glides for a devastator wand and tried it out on a compressed rubber, indoor walking track. the results are phenomenal, and I like the fact that we are not wearing out the Teflon glide because the brushes act as a buffer. We scored a $20K job as a result of the test cleaning. I ordered another one today for my other Devastator

Must have improved a lot since the pos you sent me.
Or that guy is like those guys who loved Mytee products.

We had a very early spring here in NC so business is great. Heck, it was 85 degrees a few days in February.

In a few more weeks the rest of the country will thaw out and all of a sudden every cleaner and his brother will realize "Oh crap! I'm out of peroxide! I'm out of solvent gel! I don't have snap blocks!"

Our industry is much like farming:

The older generation is retiring or going to their eternal reward, and there are fewer younger people taking their place.

Those that remain, or those young people who are committed coming along and building a future here , have the chance to rework and mold a new future for our industry.

This group ( plus another 6-7) showed lots of promise.PXL_20230316_183624803~2.jpg

It was encouraging to see a vibrant old school association at work.
Unfortunately, I think the WSPCA is the last of them.

Apparently a group of Carolina cleaners met at my last Fest in SC and created a active and positive FB afterwards.

Why here?

Who knows...

I don’t have near the experience of most here, but when I want to be busy, I just send out a Markate text blast to all my customers and wait for the chaos of people wanting to schedule. I have to take the day off to handle all the calls/texts every time I do that.

This is the best the first time we sent a text blast we were like I hope we can book a few jobs off of it.... we weren't ready for the chaos and had a full day of getting back to people and scheduling

Yep, it works. Especially since the customers can simply reply to your automated text.

And somewhere in the middle, having already spent many more years in this industry than I intended... Is me😂
