Sally's/Vol 40/H2O2 - how do you use it?

I had a soldier bring a rug to the shop with a very dark yellow pee spot on it. Hand made Afgan, dark green, gold and black. I told him I would have to do drastic measures and he was ok with that. Sprayed 40 vol. on it and let it sit all day. Almost no change. It may have lightened a little. Then I hit it again with fresh 40 vol. followed by a spray of ammonia. Next morning, almost perfect. Did it again and by the end of day it was gone. Not 1 bit of color loss of the rug. No more stain magic for me. I've wasted so much money on that stuff and never got good results. That goes for stain1 and stain zone. Never have seen any carpet police in the area. I'll take my chances.

I think the color loss may not be the main issue when you do a treatment like you described. I would say the fiber breaking down from the repeated use of the ammonia and peroxide is what I would be worried about.

Maybe its ok right now but in a few weeks or months it could start falling apart. Hopefully it won't...otherwise you could have the soldier bring it with missing yarns in the area of the treatment.

great thread.

I use far less peroxide now that I'm all premium and shit.

I know this is a really old thread but....
What do you mean by acid?
Larry hasn't been back here ever since he sold out, but I think he was just trying to create a reason to buy his product over plainJane vol. 40 in the local Sally's store

I use both Sally's 40 volume as well as commercially prepared peroxide spotters. Sally's works well as a pretreatment for coffee or other organic stains but I like to rinse it out as it can cause damage in certain situations. I use Harvard's Stain Magic both as a pretreatment as well as a post treatment and find it works better than Sally's even though it's not as strong. Probably has to do with their formulation, surfactants, etc. One of my best products has been the 2 part products like Vanish, Eliminate, etc. Especially as a spray and walk away product. The ammonia boosts the action of the peroxide and becomes self neutralizing. Sally's is cheaper and does work but there are other products that work better. I believe Pro's Choice still sells 2 part oxidizers as well as 2 part reducers.

I’ve been using stain magic as well. I think it’s more like swimming pool peroxide because it does work better than Sally’s.
