Got a older TM I've been playing with for awhile now.

After seeing Les's youtube and talking to Brent I made up my mind to gut the thing and make it a propane burner.

Gunna be way to easy!

But what to use for a blower Silencer? And what heater to use? I want to hot! And quiet!

If this goes well I will convert another also.

I am not the most scientific of the group but why is hot associated with sound? Thy should be two seperate issues, right? Heat would be post heat with a #4, that is easy. Sound would be what type of blower before you try to silence because there vcan be many effective ways. You have been in the industry like 25 yrs what is up, you get hit in the head

LOL, Glad you started with the disclaimer.

Yes 2 separate issues.

A propane heater creates heat, the silencer for the blower will make it quite.

Then of course back pressure, Performance, etc.

Yeah, I guess I did not provide enough info.. #4 roots

Don't want to much restriction, but don't want it to be as loud as a powermatic.

Bob looks like he has a great set up on the PTO he builds..

Thank you Bob,

Question for you..

What if I use the original silencer for the machine, then a flowmaster after that?

that'll work fine, Beck

put a 3" high flow header muffler "under" the van.
It not only will hush it down, but also redirect the noise ..which is also part of the game

Stoddard D33 silencer will reduce noise up to 3200-3400rpms or so. Mufflers will not get it as quiet as the stoddard. If you turn the blower at 2800rpm or less(underdriven blower) the mufflers are OK.

I agree with Jay. Speed is a big factor. I run 45 between 2500-2600 rpms with 2 flowmasters and it is still on the loud side. Previously this unit had a Stoddard type silencer and it was fairly quiet. I also have a 47 run at 2800-2900 rpms which first flows through an exchanger then through 2 flowmasters and its way to loud. If and when I redo these they will both get Stoddards for sure.
