The last few years around this time we've had an uptick due to foreclosures from a local bank (highend) last year and a real estate firm this year. Anyone seeing alot of foreclosure work?

We did, for about a year, for one company out of CA. The pay was awesome, we even had a cc on file and would run it the same day, but the company was so disorganized (sending us to houses where they replaced carpet, lockboxes were wrong, tore up from construction, etc.) that we gave up on it. I would do it again in a heartbeat for the right co.

Watch out for sobotages & boobie traps. Went into a dark garage to throw some breakers on and almost grabbed live wires.

How did you get hooked up with the banks or real estate companies to supply this work?

I know and do work for the owner and also have worked for many of the people that work there. At the real estate company I've done work for many of the agents.

I have a couple of clients that deal in foreclosed homes.. not all of them are a cake walk. Its amazing how some of the people leave these houses. Buy its steady work.

The companies that I work with found me on the intronet.

A high end local bank? Not sure what that is but REO props are all over coast to coast. I get voice mail requests weekly for bids on props all over my county. If you have a specific bank local to you who's actually contracting you work then that's way above the norm of how this work get awarded. Good for you, keep it up.

I've had my hand in REO's since they first started to leak them on the market. I will continue to clean for contractors who get these homes and the few real estate folks who represent them. The vast majority have trashed out floor coverings. The ones that dodged that bullet get cleaned by price hacks. Every now and then a contractor calls my cell because he's been referred and he's sick of dealing with bottom of the barrel cleaners.

They either pay my price COD or they keep looking. The smart ones get converted. It's trashy work and only worth it to me if it's COD.

Some good friends of mine in Las Vegas got into doing repos about five years ago. (Great timing.) They have a list of sub-contractors and do none of the hands on work themselves- just make phone calls, coordinate and supervise the job and send in the bill.

It has been so successful they passed their carpet cleaning business off to their son and just do repos. (guess who gets all of their carpet cleaning?)

PS Sure, it is kind of "vulture" work. But somebody is going to renovate these places.

I have done several "post" foreclosures.

Meaning that new owners have either bought them to live in or rent. They are NOT spending the money on new carpet or tile, which for us is a good thing.

When I do door hangers a lot of houses are empty. But I leave my info there regardless in hopes that either a RE agent or home shoppers find the info.

I am in Pasco County, FL. This is NOT the foreclosure captiol, but there are a LOT, (1 out 12 in "ify" neighborhoods, 1 out 25 in "better" neighborhoods) so I can only imagine what it is like to go thru some of these harder hit areas.
