I bought one from Jegs, Holds a chevy 350 thermostat. Works great.

Jegs is where I found this one...I like the twist together better......did you just take the thermostat out of the block housing and move it to the in line...........???

Yeah, This went on my garage mount I built with a Kohler Aegis engine. I removed the factory thermostat, put this in line to the Rad. and put a 'TEE' to bypass coolant to my liquid HX.

so mine already "TEE's" off and goes into HX....I think from bottom of radiator.......( I will have to check to be 100% sure ).....

this is for my thermalwave..........

the top radiator hose goes from radiator..around back of machine and into the thermostat housing......straight line..no Tee's or breaks......
I want to put this housing in line and pull the block stat out......in my mind it should work just the same as if the stat was in the block housing....??

I would think It should work the same...

ALTHOUGH, my Powerstroke Van (The one I built a Direct Drive in) Had a WEIRD thermostat housing on the water pump, that if the thermostat was not in it, causing the water to not circulate properly (Kind of like the impeller will just swish the water around)

This is one of the dozens of reasons for just scrapping the whole PS Direct drive project.

But if your thermostat is nowhere near the water pump id say your fine.

I see why you want to relocate it... looks like a PITA to service.

Looks like your safe, I would delete it and add the inline therm.

Thermalwave has been giving me a few problems for the last week or so.......blew a top hose.....replaced it....thing ran great for a week and blew the hose off again.....long story short ..stat went out..........

The engine is a General Motors 4 cylinder 1.6 liter.........or...a Vortec 1600..(same animal)...the lovely people at GM who built this thing figured it would be OK to put a part that is known for going out now and then right behind the timing gears.........and it is going to be a royal pain in the ass to replace........so I figured I would just relocate the thing to a in line stat housing and be done with it once and for all...............

Ashley , what is , disadvantage, of routing all of coolant from top thermostat directly to coolant exchanger, than to radiator? Would this not maximize the end goal?

no.....but i've bolted two straight neck t-stat housings together on several occasions to serve as an inline t-stat...no issues

As far inline thermo, only concern, farther you got away from engine, with only a pinhole I believe in the thermo, there would be a delay before opening.

Jim, was your engine running too hot? I have about 6k hrs on my thermal wave and had to replace my water pump about 400 hrs ago. And yes it was behind the timing belt. Not fun to change. Had a hard time lining up my 3 timing marks. Hope it worksite for you.

The machine would get to hot and shut itself down....I pulled the radiator cap and there was no circulation......

Right now it only seems to be the stat.....I got it out and it had printed on it that it was a 92/107 degree......I thought it was supposed to be a 180/182..... I stuck it in a pan of boiling water with a thermometer in it and got the water temp over 200 degrees and it hardly opened.....

I won't know if it is the pump until I get the new stat and put it all back together.....

i marked the gears....the belt...and the sprockets....pretty sure I can get it back together ok....Sapphire is sending me out the whole assembly tomorrow.....and I am hoping to get it back on the road by the end of the week....

the machine has just over 2000 hours on it....one would of thought a stat should of held up longer then that....

where did you get your parts.....???

Jim, I had to replace my water pump because it was leaking. A couple of months after that my electric fan went out and did a replacement like you did. I got my water pump from PSI engines. They were over $100 cheaper than where I purchased the tm from. Psi engines 1-800-551-2938. I think they are in Illinois? Hope this helps

Jim I think you should be fine relocating the therm. Worst case is you gonna do it back the udder way. Sometimes a practical mod it the best mod. Not a perfomance mod but maintance mod.

Really look around on the waterpump for any coolant at weep holes. Atleast your not working on an engine under the hood of a van. What a pain that is. LOL

By the way my Parker 2000 ballvalve is still like new with 50-75hrs on it.
